The multi-building complex, located in downtown Cotonou, will consist of a new office building, utility building, support annex, and warehouse. The project, scheduled for completion in July 2015, will provide a state-of-the-art workspace for over 170 embassy employees.
The concept design architect is Yost, Grube, Hall of Portland, Oregon and the architect of record is Page Southerland Page of Arlington, Virginia.
The new facility will incorporate numerous sustainable features, most notably a veiling sunshade that provides enhanced mitigation against solar heat gain. The facility also features a photovoltaic array, occupancy sensors, low-flow water fixtures, solar thermal hot water, rainwater collection, daylight harvesting, and reuse of waste water effluent for irrigation.
Since 1999, as part of the Department’s Capital Security Construction Program, OBO has completed 94 new diplomatic facilities and has an additional 38 projects in design or construction.
