YOKOHAMA, Japan, Sept. 22, 2013 – 2013 U.S. junior all-around champion Bailie Key of Montgomery, Texas/Texas Dreams, won the all-around at the 2013 International Junior Gymnastics Competition at the Yokohama (Japan) Cultural Gymnasium. Lauren Hernandez of Old Bridge, N.J./MG Elite, the U.S. junior all-around silver medalist, claimed the bronze medal at the event, which wraps up Sept. 23 with the individual event finals.
Key won the event with a 58.400, followed by China's Yan Wang at 56.900 and Hernandez with 56.750. Key's individual event scores were: 15.050, vault; 14.350, uneven bars; 14.000, balance beam; and 15.000, floor exercise. Hernandez's event scores were: 14.700, vault; 12.900, uneven bars; 14.550, balance beam; and 14.600, floor exercise. Key posted the highest event score for vault, uneven bars and floor, with Hernandez earning the second highest floor score.
For event finals, the U.S. women qualified for: vault, Key and Hernandez; uneven bars, Key; balance beam – Hernandez and Key; and floor exercise – Key and Hernandez.
This event was the first international assignment for Hernandez and the fourth for Key. Coaches for the event are Kim Zmeskal Burdette of Texas Dreams and Maggie Haney of MG Elite.
