Clark Nets Hat Trick as Spartans Defeat Thomas 4-0

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Castleton women's soccer team extended their North Atlantic Conference winning streak to six games on Sunday afternoon with a 4-0 win over Thomas College.
Eva Clark netted her first career hat trick in the game, while Shelby McLenithan also chipped in with a goal. Bronwen Hopwood tallied two assists, as the Spartans improve to 8-6 overall and 6-0 in NAC play. Thomas falls to 6-6 overall and 3-2 in conference action with the loss.

Clark got the scoring going early, after Nicole Wershoven was taken down in the box to draw a foul in the 15th minute. The junior forward stepped up to the spot and buried the ball into the bottom left corner or th net, putting the Spartans in front by one.

She would score her second of the half in the 35th minute when Hopwood's shot forced the keeper into action, and Clark cleaned up the rebound to give Castleton a 2-0 lead going into the break.
Just five minutes into the second half, Clark completed the hat trick. The junior attacker received a pass from Hopwood before netting a goal from just inside the 18-yard line.

In the 55th minute of play, McLenithan tallied her fifth goal of the season and fourth in the last three games to secure a 4-0, Castleton victory.

Jessica Binkowski picked up the victory after making four saves in 70 minutes of play, while Kasie Wilk took over for the final 20 minutes in her third appearance of the season. Paige Leary stopped 14 of the 18 shots that she faced in the losing effort.

Castleton is back in action on Thursday, hosting Middlebury in a non-conference matchup at Spartan Stadium. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
