Keene State Field Hockey Crushes Castleton, 8-1

KEENE, N.H.-- Sami Smith, Julia Babbitt, and Kendal Brown each scored two goals as the Keene State College field hockey team rolled to an 8-1 win over Castleton University on Tuesday night at Owl Athletic Complex.

Keene State has won seven straight and improves to 11-4, while the Spartans fall to 4-7.

KSC got the ball rolling with three goals in a four minute span in the first half.  Brittney Cardente set up Haylie Dolan at the 12:13 mark to open the scoring, and Smith followed with two goals 32 seconds apart.

Marita Brothers was next in on the scoring in the 23rd minute, and Babbitt got her first in the 27th.  Brown completed the first half scoring with an unassisted tally in the 30th and another goal in the 35th.

Babbitt got her second of the game six minutes into the second half with the assist from classmate Erica Stauffer.  Sarah Wells broke up the shutout for Castleton with eight minutes left.

Meaghan Dwyer played the first 50 minutes and did not make a save, nor did Gwendolyn Thayer, who played 11:23.  Kendra Lonergan played the final 8:32.  Meeghan Doris made eight stops for Castleton.

Keene State returns to action on Friday night, playing host Eastern Connecticut State at 6 p.m.  The Spartans host Husson University on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
