INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey
Committee announced that the University of New Hampshire in conjunction
with the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H. will host the 2017
Division I Men's Ice Hockey Northeast Regional March 25-26.
"We are excited to once again be able to play host to the NCAA hockey regionals in Manchester," said Marty Scarano,
UNH Director of Athletics. "Tim Bechert and his staff at SMG are
tremendous partners, the Verizon Wireless Arena is a first-class venue,
and our goal remains to give our fans the chance to see the Wildcats
compete right here in New Hampshire for a spot in the Frozen Four."
The
2017 season will mark the seventh time UNH hosts a men's ice hockey
regional at the Verizon
Wireless Arena. The event was previously held
there in 2004, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2015 with the men's hockey
team advancing to the Northeast Regional at the Verizon Wireless Arena
five of the six years.
"We're excited to have the regionals back in Manchester," UNH Head Coach Dick Umile
said. "I believe the NCAA recognized the hard work that UNH, Verizon
Wireless Arena and the city of Manchester put into the previous six
regionals when awarded this one. We strive to qualify and compete in the
NCAA tournament every year and it's tremendous for us to be able to
play in front of our loyal fan base."
"On behalf of SMG and the
entire Verizon Wireless Arena staff we look forward to continuing the
fantastic relationship with UNH athletics and the NCAA. The opportunity
to showcase our facility, our city and the enthusiasm which surrounds
hockey in the state is something we take great pride in and look forward
to," said Tim Bechert, Senior General Manager of the Verizon Wireless Arena.
In
addition to the 2017 Northeast Regional, the East Regional will be held
at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, R.I. with Brown University
as host. The Midwest Regional will be hosted by Miami (Ohio) at the U.S.
Bank Arena in Cincinnati while the West Regional will be hosted by the
University of North Dakota at Scheels Arena in Fargo, N.D. Ticket
