Volleyball goes 1-1 On Second Day of Tom Hay

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.-- The Keene State College volleyball team split the last two matches of the Tom Hay Invitational on Saturday afternoon, beating Eastern Connecticut State 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-22) but falling to host Springfield College 3-0 (17-25, 19-25, 17-25).

The Owls improve to 14-8.

Rachel Lamica and Alexis Michal were both named to the All-Tournament team.

Eastern Connecticut State
Angela Silveri had 11 kills, and Madeleine Nossif hit .700, while Michal had 27 of the teams' 30 assists as KSC cruised past their LEC foes.

Already up 12-11 in the first set, the Owls closed out the frame on a 13-4 burst.  KSC picked up where they left off in the second set, jumping out to a 12-5 lead on a Eastern Connecticut serving error and never let the Warriors within 10 the rest of the way.

Keene State closed out the match in the final set;  KSC edged ahead 8-5 on a kill by Cat Kazazian, and increased the lead to 17-11 on a kill from Nossiff.  The Warriors closed to within 23-22, but an Eastern serving error and Silveri's kill ended the match.

Springfield
Keene State was stymied against Springfield, hitting .073 for the match.  The Pride, who received votes in the most recent AVCA Top 25 poll, hit .226 with nine service aces.

Nossiff led the way for Keene State with 11 kills, while Michal had 12 digs and 14 assists, and Brooke Bell had 11 assists.
 
KSC heads to Plymouth State for a key LEC matchup against the Panthers on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
