Women's Soccer Battles Back For 3-3 Draw With Middlebury

KEENE, New Hampshire -- The Keene State College women's soccer team scored three times in the second half to pick up a thrilling 3-3 tie with visiting Middlebury College on Monday night at Owl Athletic Complex.

The game, which was rescheduled from September 30, saw the Owls improve to 5-3-2 and the Panthers to 3-3-2.

Middlebury overwhelmed Keene State in the first half, outshooting the Owls 10-2, and opening the scoring in the 12th minute when Hannah Robinson fired a free kick that squirmed over the line.
 Nearly 10 minutes later, Adrianna Gildner doubled the lead when her shot to the far post nicked off the upright and in.

With just six seconds left in the half, Gildner made it 3-0 with another set piece.  Gildner, shooting
from approximately 28 yards out and far to the left, sent the ball over KSC goalie Dani Warhall's shoulder into the upper corner.

Keene State came out with renewed energy in the second half, and nearly got on the board just three minutes in when Taylor Farland's free kick cannoned back off the post.

The warning shot had been fired, though, and the Owls did break through when sophomore Tori Laires headed in Jennifer Wilson's corner kick in the 68th minute.

KSC continued to press, as Sierra Trzepacz forced a brilliant save out of Middlebury goalie Emily Eslinger; Trzepacz hit a half-volley from the top of the area that Eslinger could only tip on to the crossbar in the 82nd minute.

Keene State scored twice in a  to tie the game up.  In the 84th minute, Patricia Norton threaded in a through ball for Shannon Summers, who clipped the ball over Eslinger for her third of the season.  Just 23 seconds later, Trzepacz beat Eslinger to the far side to knot the score.

In overtime, the Owls picked up key saves from Warhall, who stoned Grace Woroch in the first extra period, then kept out Robinson's header and Gildner's effort in the second.

Warhall finished with a career high 10 saves, while Eslinger made three.

Keene State will travel to Worcester State on Wednesday night for a 7 p.m. start.  The Panthers travel to Tufts for a 1:30 start on October 10.
