tallied five points and three Eagles scored hat tricks as Green
Mountain earned its first victory of the season getting past
UMaine-Farmington, 13-8, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's lacrosse action on Sunday morning at Spartan Stadium.
Nate Laymon, Will Durant and Brendan McKenna each led the Eagles with three goals with Durant also registering an assist. David Gerken notched a goal and a pair of assists, while Oliver Vicar had a goal and an assist. Chris Surdam also scored once in the victory.Isaac Wright, Travis St. Pierre and Cameron McAllister each recorded two goals and an assist for the
Beavers. Skylar McMillan posted a goal and two assists, while Chase Rerrick also tallied a goal in the loss.
Green Mountain (1-7, 1-2 NAC) opened the scoring at the 12:36 mark of the opening quarter when McKenna found the back of the cage after receiving a feed from Durant. The Eagles would extend their lead to 4-0 as Parsons set up Laymon and Durant each for their first of the game and then Vicar converted a feed from Gerken.
UMaine-Farmington (0-7, 0-4 NAC) ended the run as St. Pierre notched his first of the game off of a pass from Josh Allen.
Gerken would score with just under a minute remaining in the first quarter to give the Eagles a 5-1 lead heading into the second quarter.
After McKenna stretched the Eagles' lead to 6-1, UMaine-Farmington began to mount a comeback. The Beavers scored three-straight times to cut the deficit to 6-4 with 2:55 remaining in the half. St. Pierre, Rerrick and McMillan each scored during the run.
With the Beavers continuing to press on a man-up situation, Parsons made a great effort on a loose ball near midfield by running through the groundball which freed him for a one-on-one with the goalie in which he managed to beat the goalie low and left to give the hosts a 7-4 lead heading into the break.
The Beavers were able to bring the deficit to three a couple times in the second half, but each time the Eagles were able to respond with a goal of their own to ensure their lead remained throughout the rest of the game, outscoring the visitors by a 6-4 margin in the second half.
Picking up the win in net for the Eagles was Carl Diethelm who stopped eight shots. Caleb Carr manned the pipes for the Beavers in the loss making seven saves.
Green Mountain will host NAC opponent Lyndon State College at Spartan Stadium on Monday at 3 p.m. in its next contest, while UMaine-Farmington will travel to Johnson State College next Saturday for its next conference game scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
