Pissis Posts 30 Points to Bring ‘Cats Back in Win Column Over Binghamton

Pissis’ 30 points serves as his UNH career-high

DURHAM, N.H  –  The University of New Hampshire men's basketball team defeated Binghamton, 79-72 on Saturday afternoon from Lundholm Gymnasium.
 

Junior guard Sami Pissis (Paris, France) scored his UNH career-high of 30 points and recorded three rebounds for the Wildcats. Junior guard Anthony McComb III (Dayton, Ohio) added 13 points for the 'Cats.
 

The Wildcats improve to 3-15 (1-2 AE).

      Within the first minute, Pissis got the scoring started with a three.

      Binghamton took the lead 12-3, but junior guard Jawarie Hamelin (Westerly, R.I.) made a layup to stop the scoring run.

      Following the first timeout, Pissis was fouled on a made three-pointer to spark some momentum for the 'Cats.

      Freshman center Caleb Middleton (Dover, N.H.) secured two offensive rebounds, followed by a freshman guard Antoni Siewruk (Koszalin, Poland) three to help the 'Cats come back (18-15).

      Binghamton held the lead, but Siewruk made it a four-point difference with a layup.

      With seconds left on the clock, Pissis dropped in a layup but the 'Cats could not take the first half (42-37).

      Sophomore forward Davide Poser (Veneto, Italy) kicked off the scoring for UNH with a layup.

      Graduate student forward/center Emmanuel Okpomo (Delta State, Nigeria) continued the momentum with a layup, free-throw, and a block.

      Freshman guard Khalil Badru (New Britain, Conn.) tied up the game with a layup, and another Pissis layup put the 'Cats in the lead 46-44.

      Pissis made it a one-point game with a three and following a Binghamton timeout, Okpomo sunk a layup to regain the UNH lead 51-50.

      Poser drilled two three-pointers, keeping the 'Cats on fire (65-59).  

      With two minutes left, Pissis made five of his seven free throws putting them six points ahead.

      Binghamton crept back up, but free throws from Hamelin and Badru helped the Wildcats secure their first conference win 79-72.

      The 'Cats continue conference play next week for a road trip to UMBC (Thursday, Jan 16, 6 p.m.) and NJIT (Saturday, Jan 18, 3 p.m.).
