Eagles Aced by Gators

TROY, N.Y. – Green Mountain College was shorthanded and suffered an injury during the match as the Eagles women's tennis team was upended by The Sage Colleges, 9-0, in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Prospect Park.

Sage (2-8) swept the first two doubles matches, 8-3 and 8-1 and then earned the win in No. 3 doubles via forfeit.

Green Mountain (0-10) captain Alex Reedy (Rutland, Vt.) battled valiantly in first flight singles pushing Sage captain Katie Shultz, but ultimately fell, 6-3, 7-5.

The Eagles' Paige Vlahos (Little Silver, N.J.) was forced to retire in her No. 2 singles matchup with Melissa Estremera down 1-0. Jada Lee (Midland, Texas) was unable to get any momentum going in third flight singles dropping her match, 6-0, 6-2.

Salima Mahamoudou (Niamey, Republic of Niger) was ousted in fourth flight singles losing to her opponent 6-1, 6-0. Hseng Leng (Namkham, Myanmar) played her best match of the year in fifth flight singles despite being handed a 6-1, 6-3 loss.

Green Mountain will close out the regular season on Thursday with a non-conference match at Castleton scheduled for 4 p.m.
