KEENE, N.H.-- Christine Hadfield and Angela Silveri
both hit over .400 as the Keene State College volleyball team notched a
3-1 (22-25, 25-16, 25-15, 25-21) win over the University of Southern
Maine in Little East Conference action at Spaulding Gym on Tuesday
night.
The Owls end a three game losing streak and improve to 12-7, and 2-1
in the Little East Conference, while the Huskies drop to 8-11, and 1-2
in the LEC.
Silveri racked up 21 kills to just three errors on 45 attempts, and
added 17 digs and three service aces, while Hadfield, returning to the
lineup following an injury, had 10 kills on 19 attempts and one service
ace.
The Huskies started strong, rolling out to a 17-5 lead in the first
set on Megan Nilson's service ace. Kills from Madeleine Nossif and
Silveri and an ace from Riley Bunker closed the gap, but USM finished off the set with a kill from Karina Zellou.
The second set was tied at 10 before Keene State pulled away, going
up 15-11 on a Southern Maine error and ending the set on two more USM
errors.
Silveri's kill ended the third set as Keene State led by as many as
12. The fourth set was more nip-and-tuck, but the Owls ended the match
on a service ace by Christine Hadfield.
Jess Williamson had 15 kills to lead USM, while Mo Raymond had 10 kills. Demi Ruder had 18 digs.
Keene State heads to the Springfield Tournament this weekend, while the Huskies travel to St. Joseph's on Thursday night.
