CatamounTV Highlights
"It was a great team effort today. I'm proud of the way we battled for this first conference win," head coach Kate Pfeifer said. "When things didn't go our way, we fought even harder and played a solid 70 minutes of hockey."
Anne
Marie Farmer got the Catamount (3-9, 1-1) goal scoring started. UVM
earned a penalty corner,
and Farmer corralled a rebound and sent a shot
low into the pocket of UML's (5-6, 0-3) net, lifting the Catamounts to a
1-0 advantage 11 minutes into play. It was Farmer's fourth goal of the
season.
Vermont took a 2-0 lead late in the first half when freshman Lauren Tucker directed a pass towards teammate Landon Warren, who was able to net her second goal of the season.
After
the halftime break, UMass Lowell's Christa Doiron got the River Hawks
on the board with just five mintes gone in the second half. The ball
found Doiron's stick after a scrum in front of the UVM cage and she
capitalized.
Carla Godsman
answered right back for the Catamounts just over a minute later with
her first career goal. Godsman made a great individual move to beat the
last River Hawk defender before beating the keeper to give Vermont its
two-goal edge back.
Lowell added a second goal from Torrie Huk but Vermont's Lena Benwood
(five saves) stood tall down the stretch and made a diving save on
UMass Lowell's final shot on an untimed penalty corner to seal the win.
The
Catamounts travel to New Hampshire on Friday, Oct. 9 for a 4 p.m.
