NORTHAMPTON, Mass.-- An own goal with 17 minutes left lifted the Keene
State College women's soccer team to a 3-2 road win over Smith College
on non-conference action on Thursday.
The Owls improve to 8-4-2, while the Pioneers drop to 5-5-3.
Twice the teams traded goals less than three minutes apart - Olivia Mallari had given Smith a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute, but Kali Santino equalized 2:44 later with an unassisted goal.
Jackie Foody restored Smith's lead 13 minutes into the second half, only to see KSC's Rebecca Costello knot the score again just 1:43 later off a free kick.
The game remained at 2-2 until the 73:02 mark when Innis Hitt headed into her own net following a Keene State corner.
Taylor Farland
rattled the post for the Owls with seven minutes left, and though the
Pioneers forced a pair of corners in the final three minutes, they could
not come up with a third goal.
Danielle Warhall made three saves in net for the Owls, while Smith counterpart Camryn Biasin did not have to make a stop.
Keene State heads to UMass Dartmouth on October 17 for a Little East
Conference game that begins at 4 p.m. Smith hosts MIT at 2 p.m. on the
same day.
