Madore's Pair of Goals too Much for Eagles

POULTNEY, Vt. – Molly Madore potted two goals as the Green Mountain College women's soccer team fell to Southern Vermont College, 3-0, in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Eagles Game Field.

Green Mountain (0-8) started the game strong controlling the pace of play in the opening 25 minutes, and keeping pressure on the visitors while registering several shots. The Mountaineer defense did just enough to prevent any of the shots from becoming overly dangerous.

Southern Vermont (6-4) took advantage of its limited chances in the game up to that point when Karina Meza notched an unassisted marker in the 27th minute to put the visitors on top, 1-0.

Green Mountain had a tremendous opportunity to draw even when Maegan Laymon (Ilion, N.Y.) broke in alone on the Mountaineers' net on a through ball, but her shot which evaded a charging SVC keeper was just left of the mark.

The host Eagles struggled out of the gates in the second half while the Mountaineers gained momentum after putting another strike in the back of the net as Madore scored her first of the game just over three minutes into the second half.

Green Mountain tried to press again throughout the remainder of the half, but could not generate many quality scoring opportunities and had Madore strike a superb left footed laser from about 22 yards out over the outstretched arms of the Eagles' keeper to ice the win.

Carissa Bottisti picked up the win and shutout in net for SVC with three saves. Kim Simonetti (Salem, Mass.) got saddled with the loss after making three saves as well.

Green Mountain returns to North Atlantic Conference play this weekend when it heads up to Maine to take on Thomas on Saturday at 1 p.m. and then heads to UMaine-Farmington on Sunday for a noon start. The Mountaineers will also engage in a conference match when they play New England Collegiate Conference opponent Wheelock on Saturday at 1 p.m.
