CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton women's tennis team wrapped up their
regular season with a 9-0 sweep of Green Mountain College on Thursday
evening in a non-conference matchup.
The win moves Castleton to 10-2 overall, while they finished with a
5-2 record. Green Mountain closes out their season 0-11, as well as 0-7
in conference play.
The Spartans got out to an early lead, taking all three doubles matches. Sara Novenstern and Jackie Lisak rolled to an 8-0 win, while Ciara Bannister and Kirsten Kruk won 8-0 as well. Gabrielle Welch and Denise Clavijo took the third-flight matchup by a score of 8-1 for the Spartans.
Castleton would keep it going in singles play, with Novenstern winning 6-3, 6-4 at the top flight. Lisak, Bannister, Kruk, Meg Susslin, and Dianne Benedicto
each won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. Lisak, Bannister and Kruk each
extended their personal winning streaks to nine matches in the contest
today.
Castleton is back in action on Saturday, when they travel to New
London, N.H. for the NEAC East Championship hosted by Colby-Sawyer. The
tournament is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m.
