Clancy Records Career-High 13 Saves; Women's Lax Falls to Fairfield, 16-6

DURHAM, N.H.Kate Clancy (Barrington, R.I.) made a career-high 13 saves, but the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team was defeated 16-6 by Fairfield University in Saturday afternoon's non-conference matchup at Cowell Stadium.

GAME RECAP
  • Devon Croke (Norwell, Mass.) scored an unassisted goal at 18:39 of the first half to pull UNH within 3-2, but Fairfield scored four goals in a span of 2 minutes, 45 seconds to build a 7-2 advantage at 14:22; the Wildcats never got closer than four goals the rest of the way.
  • The Stags closed the first half on a 3-0 run to take a 10-3 lead into halftime. The visitors built that lead with sizeable advantages in shots (21-8), draw controls (10-4) and turnovers (4-10).
  • Laura McHoul (Westwood, Mass.) and Devan Miller (Bristol, R.I.) scored consecutive goals at 22:40 and 22:09 to mark the smallest second-half deficit of six goals, 11-5.
  • Riley Hellstein (7g, 2a) responded with goals 61 seconds apart – at 21:00 and 19:59 – to quickly reestablish an eight-goal cushion of 13-5.
  • Fairfield then went into a perimeter passing offense to maintain possession, and the Stags slowly extended the lead to double digits, 15-5, at 12:34.

UNH NOTEBOOK
  • Kate Clancy (Barrington, R.I.) made a career-high 13 saves, including nine in the first half. She had recorded 12 saves twice this year and twice last season.
  • Carly Wooters (White Plains, N.Y.) extended her goal streak to six games with one tally.
  • McHoul extended her point streak to six games with one goal; she had tallied at least one assist each of the previous five games.
  • With her one point, McHoul climbed into at tie for No. 7 on UNH's career points list with Liz Brickley at 179 career points. McHoul has 72 goals and a school-record 107 assists.
