NEW ORLEANS – Assistant coach Robert Hoppler of
the University of New Hampshire women's track & field team was
named NCAA Division I Northeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year by
the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on
Friday.
In his 17th year with the program, Hoppler
has led the UNH cross country program to a third consecutive America
East championship in the fall and most recently coached the track &
field team to a runner up finish at the league championships.
"I
would like to thank the coaches association for this honor as well as
the student-athletes of the University of New Hampshire cross country
and track & field program for all the hard work and dedication,"
said Hoppler. "It is a privilege to coach a great group of athletes. I
would also like to thank coach Boulanger for his leadership of the
entire program as the director."
So far this year, Hoppler has
coached three top-10 finishers at the America East Cross Country
Championships as well as five champions at the America East Indoor Track
& Field Championships.
On the national level, Hoppler guided senior Laura Rose Donegan (Melbourne, Australia) to a 30th place finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championships and also coached sophomore Elinor Purrier (Montgomery,
Vt.) to the fastest collegiate mile in the country as she is set to
compete at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships next weekend.
Just this season, six school records were broken by student-athletes
under the guidance of coach Hoppler.
Hoppler earned the same honor last spring after a successful outdoor season.
