NASHUA, N.H. - Host Daniel Webster College was held to two hits as
Mitchell College completed a three-game weekend NECC sweep with a 13-0
victory in baseball action on Sunday at Harvey Woods Field.
The Mariners (18-3, 8-1 NECC) won their seventh straight game, racking up 11 hits while being aided by five Eagle errors. Tyler Pina led Mitchell with a 3-for-4 outing and three RBI, and Jack Finnegan and Dan Frattaroli knocked in a pair of runs each. Starting pitcher Axel De Jesus went 7.0 innings and allowed just one hit, striking out three and walking two to improve to 3-2.
Curtis Hamilton took the loss (1-4) for DWC, which slipped to 6-14 overall (2-9 NECC).
Mitchell, now 10-1 over its last 11, plated three in the first inning
keyed by a two-run single from Pina. The Mariners tacked on two more in
the third behind a Frattaroli run-scoring sac fly and an RBI single from
Markus Melendez
to make it 5-0, and then broke the game open with a five-run fifth
which included a Pina two-run double. Finnegan connected for a two-run
single in a three-run sixth as the lead ballooned to 13-0.
Zack Cartwright and Dakota Williams registered the two Eagle hits. De
Jesus, who struck out three and walked two, turned the ball over to the
bullpen for the eighth and ninth. Marcus Guadarrama and Evan Dickerson each tossed 1.0 inning of relief to close out the game.
Mitchell will next host Salve Regina University on Wednesday, April 13 at 3:30 p.m.
