No. 52 Dartmouth Drops 5-2 Decision to Penn

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The No. 52 Dartmouth women’s tennis team fell to No. 74 Penn, 5-2, at the Levy Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Big Green dipped to 10-6 overall and 1-3 in Ivy League play, while the Quakers improved 10-7 and 3-2 in conference action after defeating Harvard the day before.

Dartmouth took an early lead over Penn by winning the doubles point. At No. 1, the 18th-ranked duo
of junior Taylor Ng and sophomore Kristina Mathis had a 6-1 victory over Sonya Latycheva and Kana Daniel, while senior Katherine Yau and sophomore Julia Schroeder took down Ria Vaidya and Marta Kowalska by the same score at the No. 2 position. Junior Jacqueline Crawford and sophomore Lexxi Kiven had a 4-3 edge over their opponents at No. 3 when the match went unfinished.

The Quakers tied the score at one-all with a win at No. 1 singles, but Crawford’s 6-4, 6-3 defeat of Lina Qostal at the No. 4 position put the Green ahead, 2-1. From there, Penn won the remaining four singles matches to pick up its second victory in as many days. Dartmouth did, however, put up a fight, going to three sets in a trio of matches and a tiebreaker in the other.

The Big Green will play their final road match of the regular season on Friday, April 15, heading to Brown to face the Bears at 2 p.m.
