New England College Baseball Splits Conference Road Battle With Lyndon State

Lyndonville, Vt.  – New England College split a conference double-header with Lyndon State College Wednesday afternoon, winning game one 6-4 but falling in game two 5-2.

With the split the Pilgrims are now 5-11 overall and 4-4 in the North Atlantic Conference.

GAME ONE

NEC would jump out to the early 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Lonnie Cohen would double in
Conor Crouse.  The Pilgrims would plate three runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Crouse.  Lyndon would cut the lead to 4-2 after five but the two teams would exchange a pair of runs in the sixth as NEC would hold on for the 6-4 victory.

Crouse finished game one with two hits, two runs and two runs driven in.  Vincent Backert finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate, while Garrett Waldron was 2-for-3 with a run driven in.

Picking up the win on the mound for NEC was Christopher States who allowed four earned runs, on seven hits and struck out five.

GAME TWO

All the scoring would happen in the opening three innings as Lyndon would take the early 1-0 lead after the first inning.  NEC would battle back with two runs, highlight by a two-run Greg Appleman double in the second, knotting the game at 2-2.   The Hornets would regain the two run lead in the home half of the second and post a single run in the third.

Five different Pilgrims had a hit in game two, including Zachary Carrano, Shawn Queen, Joe Paliotte, Appleman and Crouse.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Pilgrims travel to Thomas College for double-headers on both Saturday, April 16 and Sunday, April 17.
