CASTLETON, Vt. – Lyndon used a streak of eight-straight goals spanning the third and fourth quarters to its advantage in a 16-9 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over Green Mountain College on Monday afternoon at Spartan Stadium.

Lyndon (2-6, 2-3 NAC) was led by a pair of four-goal performances by Kevin McCarthy and Justin Mosher. Ian Pelkey scored a pair and added an assist onto his team-high six groundballs and three caused turnovers. Colin Young and Spencer Aubin each recorded a pair of goals with Aubin adding an assist. Shea Jones scored once and assisted on three others.

Green Mountain (1-8, 1-3 NAC) was buoyed by Brendan McKenna's four goal and one assist
performance on offense with the freshman also collecting six groundballs. Nate Laymon and David Gerken each had a pair of markers with Gerken picking up an assist and Laymon posting a game-high nine groundballs. Blake Hay had his best day at the face-off X winning 19-of-28.

The visitors opened the scoring at the 10:52 mark of the first quarter as Pelkey finished off a nice passing play from Kendrick Mills. That would mark the end of the scoring in a quiet first quarter for both sides.

The Hornets extended their lead to 3-0 early in the second quarter as Jones and Adam Peeler each netted a goal, Peeler's in a man-up situation.

Green Mountain finally got on the board at the 9:47 mark of the second quarter as Gerken potted his first of the game on an unassisted effort. After the Hornets' McCarthy scored his first of the game to make it 4-1, the Eagles used a pair of goals with the man advantage to close the gap to 4-3 as Will Durant and Gerken each scored.

With time winding down in the half, Pelkey scored an unassisted goal to give the visitors a 5-3 cushion heading into half.

The Hornets outscored the Eagles 9-1, including eight unanswered goals, in a pivotal third quarter which gave the visitors a lead that was never threatened through to the final horn. Mosher accounted for four of the nine goals during the run.

With the score sitting at 15-4, the Eagles made a late adjustment which allowed the offense to start to click. However, the hosts five goal barrage in the final quarter was not enough to mount a serious comeback. All of McKenna's goals for GMC came in a span of five minutes as the game came to a close.

Shane Morin earned the win in net for the Hornets by stopping three shots in two quarters of action. Marcus Bessette logged the final 30 minutes in net also making three saves. Arun Falk made 11 stops in net for the Eagles in the loss.

Green Mountain will head to Thomas on Saturday for a NAC matchup against the Terriers at 3:30 p.m. The Hornets, meanwhile, will travel to Daniel Webster for a non-conference game Thursday at 4 p.m.
