The fifth-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team fell by a 7-2 score on Friday to No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in a match played at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, California. The Panthers (6-1) conclude their matches out west when they compete at seventh-ranked Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
The Athenas (17-2) grabbed all three points during doubles play. CMS posted an 8-2 victory in the top spot, followed by an 8-3 triumph at No. 3. The second flight came down to a tiebreaker, with the hosts earning a narrow 8-7 (3) win.
In singles action, CMS claimed the match at No. 2 for a 4-0 lead. Heather Boehm put Middlebury on the scoreboard with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Kyla Scott in the fourth position. The Athenas clinched the match with a victory at No. 3, followed by a straight-set win in the top spot.
Maddi Stow made the score 6-2 with a 7-5, 1-6, 10-8 victory in the sixth flight over Rebecca Berger. CMS rounded out the scoring with a victory at No. 5 for the final 7-2 tally.
