Eagles Ousted by Hornets

LYNDON CENTER, Vermont – The Green Mountain College women's tennis team was swept 9-0 by Lyndon State College on Saturday afternoon at the Dudley Tennis Center in the team's final North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) East match of the season.

In first flight doubles, the Eagles pairing battled hard, but could not come up with a victory. Lyndon's Christina Boyce teamed up with Olivia Bernard to defeat Alex Reedy (Rutland, Vt.) and Paige Vlahos (Little Silver, N.J.) in a tight match 8-5. 

The team of Nichole Jones and Carina Alden took the second flight 8-1 over the Eagles' duo of Jada Lee (Midland, Texas) and Salima Mahamoudou (Niamey, Republic of Niger), while Stephanie Burke and Greta Larson topped GMC's Ruby Santiago (Worcester, Mass.) and Hseng Leng (Namkham, Myanmar) 8-0 in the third flight.

Boyce would again top Reedy in first flight singles 6-4, 6-1 while Jones won the second flight 6-0, 6-0 over Vlahos.  In No. 3 singles, Alexandria Maynard defeated Lee 6-3, 6-3 while the fourth flight went to Alexa Richard, 6-0, 6-2 over Mahamoudou.  Alden and Burke took the last two flights over Santiago and Leng, 6-1, 6-0 in each match.

The Eagles (0-9, 0-7 NEAC East) travel to play Sage College Tuesday at 4 p.m. in non-conference action.
