Plymouth, New Hampshire - The Flying Monkey Performance Center is excited to present an evening with a true American original, Dan Hicks on Saturday, October 20th at 7:30pm. Dan Hicks earned a reputation as a true original with his signature eclecticism and humor. As the originator of lively “folk jazz,” Hicks blends the best parts of jazz, swing, and country into his own unique style that fellow rocker Tom Waits calls “fly, sly, wily, and dry.” Tickets for this concert start at $25.
The original Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks recorded five groundbreaking and Billboard-charting albums. They toured worldwide and Dan appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine three times.
Today Hicks, with female backup singers, “The Lickettes,” presents his usual droll humor and impeccably written tunes, incorporating Western swing, Gypsy folk, bluegrass, and bossa nova. Dan Hicks truly has the very rare gift of being both clever and funny.
According to jambose.com, “Dan Hicks is still delivering the goods, wrapped in his own unique saddle blanket of gypsy jazz woven with western swing with threads of blues, bacon grease, and bebop tying it all together.”
“Dan Hicks…no one at all sounds like him.” –NPR
