COMPLETE AVCA RELEASE
The Middlebury volleyball team continued its run of excellence in the
classroom by earning the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA)
Team Academic Award. The Panthers posted a team grade point average of
3.46 during 2018-19, marking the 14th-consecutive year (2006-19) that
the program has been recognized for its academic achievements. In total,
a record-high 1,125 collegiate and high school teams were honored for
their hard work in the award's 27th year of existence.
The award, which was initiated during the 1992-93 academic year,
honors collegiate and high school teams that displayed excellence in the
classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade point
average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
Seven Panthers in their respective second years or higher earned
NESCAC All-Academic honors last fall. The honor is awarded to
student-athletes who have completed at least one full year of college
study and who carry a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50.
On the court, Middlebury opens the 2019 campaign with two matches on
September 7 at the Union Tri-Match against Manhattanville and the host
Dutchwomen.
