Four different Wildcats scored for UNH

DURHAM, N.H. – Junior midfielder Elizabeth Finn (Scituate, Mass.), sophomore midfielder Brooke Pearson (Plainville, Conn.), graduate student forward Shya Walker (Philadelphia, Pa.) and freshman forward Amber Clarke (Cato, N.Y.) each scored for the Wildcats as the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team defeated Merrimack, 4-3, on Wednesday night at Wildcat Stadium. 

The 'Cats improve to 1-2-2, while the Warriors fall to 1-3-2.

Clarke and Walker also each posted an assist for three points, while freshman back Abby

Beasley (Fishers, Ind.) recorded a multi-point night with two assists for two points.

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute (39:59) when Beasley sent a header to Finn who blasted a shot from 25 yards out to the upper right side of the net for her first goal of the season. The assist was the first collegiate point for Beasley.


  • The Warriors tied the game at 1-1 in the 56th minute (55:40), when Kyra Whitman fired a shot from 30 yards out to the upper left corner of the goal.
  • UNH went out to a 2-1 lead in the 65th minute (64:55) when a shot by Pearson from 10 yards out deflected off Merrimack goalie Kaitlyn Brewi to the back of the net for her first goal of her college career. Walker and junior forward Natalie Zibinskas (Kensington, N.H.) each were credited with an assist on the goal. The assist for Zibinskas was the first of her collegiate career.   


  • Just 35 seconds later, Walker extended the UNH advantage to 3-1 in the 66th minute (65:30) when Brewi was unable to control a pass by Clarke as Walker then knocked it to the back of the net. The assist was the first collegiate point for Clarke.


  • After Kylie Fuller scored for Merrimack to make it a 3-2 contest in the 78th minute (77:21), Clarke recorded her first collegiate goal when she fired a shot from 15 yards out to the lower right corner of the net to increase the lead to 4-2. Graduate student forward Chloe DeLyser (Marion, N.Y.) and Beasley each posted an assist.


  • Taylor Pedra cut the UNH lead to 4-3 in the 89th minute (88:39) with a goal on a penalty kick, but the Wildcats kept the Warriors from scoring the equalizer for the 4-3 win.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:  

  • Each team took 24 shots, while Merrimack posted 13 shots on goal and UNH recorded 12.
  • The Warriors attempted two corner kicks and the Wildcats recorded one.
  • Junior Sonja Zeepvat (Mendham, N.J.) made three saves during the first 45 minutes, while sophomore Caroline Cohen (Glastonbury, Conn.) posted seven in the second half for the 'Cats. Kaitlyn Brewi tallied eight saves for Merrimack.



BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • Four Wildcats earned their first collegiate point tonight.
  • The last time UNH scored four or more goals was the 6-0 win at Siena on Aug. 31, 2023.
  • The goal by Clarke was also her first collegiate game winner.
  • Walker leads the team with two goals and five points.
