Women's Tennis Rolls to 7-0 Shutout of American Int'l



Penmen drop just 11 total games

Junior Magdalena Hubickova (Prague, Czech

Republic) was victorious in a pair of matches and did not lose a game the entire day, as the Southern New Hampshire University women's tennis team breezed to a 7-0 shutout of American International College on Sunday afternoon at Cathedral Preparatory School.


STANDOUT PERFORMERS
  • Hubickova made quick work of Victoria Azcona at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0, and also teamed with graduate student Natalie Kallmunzerova (Prague, Czech Republic) for a 6-0 sweep of Azcona and Meri Jimeno-Vicente at No. 1 doubles.
  • Kallmunzerova gave the Penmen a 3-0 lead in the match with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Jimeno-Vicente at No. 1 singles.
  • Junior Isabella Andrade (Cochabamba, Bolivia) clinched the match for SNHU with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of Varda Anand at No. 3 singles.
  • Junior Mina Houge (Oslo, Norway) was a 6-1, 6-3 winner against Alexa Conlin at No. 4 singles.
  • Freshman Katelyn Nichols (Manchester, N.H.) earned her first career win with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph versus Sophie Roberge at No. 5 singles. She also combined with senior Elizabeth Dwyer (Cutchogue, N.Y.) for a 6-1 No. 3 doubles win against Roberge and Charlotte Tevelia.
  • Sophomore Madison Blazejowski (Wethersfield, Conn.) put the finishing touches on the match with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles against Tvelia. 
  • Senior Alexxa Etienne (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) and sophomore Guntra Upeniece (Riga, Latvia) took down Anand and Conlin, 6-0, at No. 2 doubles to clinch the point.

NOTES
  • Southern New Hampshire begins the season 4-0 for the first time since the 2017-18 campaign.
  • The Penmen improve to a perfect 20-0 all-time against AIC.
  • Kallmunzerova is 10-0 in singles play to begin the season.
  • Hubickova betters her career NE10 singles mark to 19-3.

WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Penmen return to action Monday, Sept. 27 (1 p.m.) when they take on Le Moyne College.
  • The next home match for SNHU is Saturday, Oct. 2 (1 p.m.) when it plays host to Saint Michael's College at the Penmen Stadium Tennis Courts.
