SNHU Men’s Golf Finishes Second at Quechee Division II Challenge

Freshman Matt Paradis (Hooksett, N.H.) carded a 73 Tuesday to lead the Southern New Hampshire University men's golf team to a second-place finish at the Quechee Division II Challenge at the Quechee Golf Club.

Playing the Highland Course in the final round, the Penmen finished seven strokes behind Bentley University and were one shot better than Saint Thomas Aquinas College. 

Paradis equaled his 73 from the opening round to finish in a tie for sixth overall with a 2-over 146.

Middlebury College Men's Golf Finishes One Stroke Off the Pace at Williams

The Middlebury men's golf team just missed claiming the Williams Spring Classic, finishing with a two-day total of 614 to finish a stroke behind team champion Trinity. The host Ephs placed third (621) during the eight-team event hosted at the Taconic Golf Club, followed by Hamilton (631) in fourth. The Panthers took 10 strokes off their day one score, firing a 302 on Sunday. Middlebury returns to action next Saturday when it hosts the NESCAC Championship at the Ralph Myhre Golf Course.

Philippe Morin concluded the weekend finishing second overall with a 151, carding a 78 on day two after a 73 on Saturday. Fitz Bowen was the top Panther during Sunday's round, coming in with a 73 to finish in a tie for sixth place with a 156. Joining him in sixth was Rodrigo Andrade, who shaved a pair of strokes off his score with a 77 during Sunday's round for a two-day total of 156.

One stroke behind with a 157 was Bennett Doherty, who tallied an 80 on Sunday, good for an 11th-place tie. Joe Ko (88-74-162) and David McDaniel (84-86-170) rounded out the squad.

Dartmouth Nine Strokes Back of Defending Ivy Champion

JACKSON, N.J. – After one round of play in the 2016 Ivy League Men’s Golf Championship, Dartmouth sits in second place, just nine strokes behind four-time defending champion Harvard.

The Ivy League championship teed off at 8 a.m. form the par-72 Metedeconk National Golf Club where the Big Green turned in a decent first round. As a team, Dartmouth shot a combined 301 (+13) while the Crimson finished with a 292 (+4) at the 6,908-yard course. Cornell sits in third with a 305 (+17), while Yale and Princeton round out the top five.

Sophomore Ian Kelsey is currently tied for first with Harvard’s Greg Royston for the top individual with low scores of 72 through 18 holes. After bogeying the first hole, Kelsey settled in paring six of seven holes with a birdie on hole six. His success continued on the back nine with three more birdies contributing to the team’s 12 total birdies on the day.

After taking medalist honors last week at the Yale Invitational, freshman John Lazor is in a three-way tie for sixth after the Westwood, Massachusetts native shot a 74 (+2) in his first collegiate Ivy League Championship. Lazor had a decent day on the front nine with back-to-back birdies on holes three and four before he pared the final two holes on eight and nine.

Senior Charles Cai shot a 77 (+5) good for a six-way tie for 14th. Junior Scott Jaster is locked in a seven-way tie for 20th after shooting a 78 (+6) and junior Sean Fahey is tied for 31st after he shot an 82.

The second round of the 2016 Ivy League Men’s Golf Championship will take place tomorrow (today) at 8 a.m.

Middlebury Places Ninth at Manhattanville/NYU Invitational

The Middlebury men's golf team finished the two-day Manhattanville/New York University Spring Invitational in ninth place with a team score of 639 (319-320). Skidmore topped the 11-team field at 603 (299-304), while Williams finished second at 618 (320-298). The tournament was held at the par 71, 6,547-yard Forest Hill Field Club in Bloomfield, New Jersey. The Panthers compete again next weekend at the Johnson & Wales Wildcat Spring Opener.

Philippe Morin paced Middlebury on the second day shooting a team-best 75. Paired with his 78 in the opening round, Morin climbed five spots on the leaderboard to finish in a tie for 10th place at 153. Bennett Doherty carded an 80 on Sunday to tie for 15th overall with a two-day total of 155. Reid Buzby earned a combined score of 164 (84-80), shooting four strokes better on the second day to end the tournament in a tie for 45th place. Eduardo Ramos (82-87) and Graham Kenter (84-85) tied for 55th as each player totaled 169 strokes.

Skidmore's Tim Manwaring was the overall medalist, boasting a two-day score of 143 (69-74)
Middlebury's Joe Ko, who played as an individual, shot a 74 on the second day and finished tied for fifth overall with a two-day total of 150.

Men's Golf Wins ECAC Championship

The Middlebury men's golf team captured the ECAC Championship for the second time in the last three years, coming from five shots back following day one to win the title. After starting the day five strokes behind Trinity, the Panthers totaled a team score of 295 during Sunday's play for a combined two-day score of 591 (296-295). Trinity posted a team score of 302 in the second round to finish with a total of 593.

Individually, the battle for top honors turned into a fight among rookies, as Trinity's Will Rosenfield and Middlebury's Scott Guidotti entered the day separated by just two strokes atop the standings.
Guidotti shaved a stroke off his first-round score to card a two-under-par 70 and a two-day total of 141. Rosenfield was unable to replicate his first-round 69, turning in a round of 75 to close with a two-day score of 144.

Just four strokes behind Guidotti was Reid Buzby, who took home third-place honors with a 145, including a 70 on day two. Rodrigo Andrade tied for 11th with a 151 (75-76), while Philippe Morin came in with a 155 (75-80) to tie for 15th place. Bennett Doherty was next for the Panthers with a 161 (82-79), placing him in a tie for 26th.

Guidotti and Buzby both earned first-team All-ECAC honors, while Rodrigo held a spot on the second team.

Freshmen Lead Eagles against Johnson

POULTNEY, Vt. – A pair of freshmen led the way for the Eagles as Green Mountain College and Johnson State College paired up for a two team golf tournament at the Rutland Country Club on Thursday afternoon.

The Badgers bested the Eagles in the two team affair with Green Mountain finishing the day with a team score of 418 to the Badgers' 384.

Will Durant (Plymouth, Mass.) led the Eagles with a low round of 95 on the day which placed him third overall in the tournament. Chris Surdam (Plymouth, Mass.) registered the second best round of the day for GMC, just three shots behind his teammate, to finish with a score of 98 and a fourth place finish.

Dakota Dodson (St. Augustine, Fla.) placed third for the team with a round of 106 which ranked him sixth overall. Tyler Provencher (Ferrisburgh, Vt.) and Dennis Pierson (Clifton, N.J.) placed ninth and tenth overall with scores of 119 and 123, respectively.

Green Mountain returns to Rutland Country Club again Friday and Saturday to compete in the North Atlantic Conference Championship. The first round of action will get started at 10 a.m. on Friday with the second round scheduled for tee off at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
