Road Ecology
Keene, New Hampshire - Back by popular demand (this time in Keene), this indoor lecture-and discussion-based course will provide an introduction to the fascinating new field of road ecology, with special focus on road impacts to fish (yes, fish!) and wildlife. Last year, folks were calling this the "roadkill" class, and we will talk about roadkill, but road ecology is much more than carcasses. We'll also discuss road-stream crossings, roadside vegetation, and the effects of roads on water quality and landscape connectivity, as well as emerging solutions to the ecological damage caused by roads. After taking this class, you'll look at the roads you travel every day in a whole new way!
When: Tuesdays, October 23 and 30, and November 6 and 13 from 7 to 9 pm at the
Keene State College Science Center (Room 129) in Keene.
Instructor: Brett Amy Thelen
Cost: $40 for Harris Center members/$60 non-members. Pro-rated rates are $10/session for
members and $15/session for non-members.
