NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference game to the Pilgrims of New England College on Monday night, losing a defensive battle by an 8-5 final score.
The Pilgrims came out firing in the first quarter, outscoring the Cadets 4-0 in what looked to be a blowout win in the making. Norwich hung tough though and got two back in the second quarter, but still entered the halftime break trailing 5-2.
Josh Jenkins (Centennial, Colo.) picked up the first two goals of the second half to narrow the Pilgrims' lead to one, before Ian Kennedy (Gloucester, Mass.) took a sweet feed from Cody Moore (Canton, N.Y) and buried it from point-blank range to tie things up at 5-5. NEC came back down the field and answered with a goal of their own, and the two teams entered the final quarter at a 6-5 score in the Pilgrims favor.
The Pilgrims put on a defensive clinic in the final quarter, holding the Cadets to just five shots and no goals across the quarter. The buzzer sounded and the Pilgrims walked away with the 8-5 victory.
Josh Jenkins once again led the Cadets offensively with three goals on the night. Cody Moore spent his night finding teammates, accounting for three assists. Matt Richard and Charles Hacking each had two goals to lead the Pilgrims.
Next up for the maroon and gold is a Wednesday night matchup with Regis College, with the Pride coming to town on April 4 for a conference showdown set to start at 4:00 PM.
