Dartmouth Drops Conference Opener to Harvard, 4-3

HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth women’s tennis narrowly fell to Harvard, 4-3, in both teams’ Ivy League opener at the Boss Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon. The Big Green dipped to 7-9 overall, while the Crimson improved to 9-8.

Senior Kristina Mathis and sophomore Racquel Lyn had a 6-4 victory at No. 2 doubles, but Harvard wins at the No. 1 and 3 positions gave the first point to the visitors.

A 6-2, 6-2 win by Mathis over Erica Oosterhout at No. 1 tied things up at one apiece, but Crimson victories at No. 2 and 5 put Harvard ahead by two. Lyn’s 6-4, 6-1 defeat of Annika Ringblom at the No. 3 spot pulled Dartmouth back within one, but a three-set Crimson win at No. 6 clinched the win.

Freshman Abigail Chiu and Irene Lu continued play at No. 4. Chiu won the first set, 6-2, but dropped the second by a score of 6-3. The Big Green rookie rebounded to take the third set, 6-4.

Dartmouth will host Yale on Friday at 2 p.m.
