MANCHESTER, NH — Don’t miss our blockbuster exhibition Mount Washington: The Crown of New England, open now through January 16, 2017. It is the first Museum exhibition devoted entirely to art featuring the Mount Washington region. The exhibition features major paintings by Hudson River School artists, including Albert Bierstadt, Thomas Cole, Jasper Francis Cropsey, John Frederick Kensett and David Johnson, as well as acclaimed painters such as Winslow Homer and George Inness. Paintings, prints, vintage photographs and illustrated guidebooks from the late 1820s through the 1870s document the artistic and historical context in which New Hampshire’s most iconic scenic landmark became a national and international symbol of the American landscape, a center for scientific study and one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations.

The Museum’s entrance is located at 150 Ash Street and free parking is available in the on-site lot. Museum hours are Sunday, Monday, Wednesday-Friday 11 a.m.–5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.–5 p.m., with extended hours until 9 p.m. during Currier After Hours events, typically the first Thursday of each month. Closed Tuesday. Admission to the Museum is always free for children 12 and younger and Museum Members. Special exhibition charges still apply. Currier After Hours: Holiday Extravaganza
Thursday, November 3, 6-9 p.m.
Start your holiday shopping early with this special fair hosted by the Currier Museum Shop. Regional artisans not typically represented in the Shop will be here for one night only selling handmade crafts throughout the Museum. Unwind with live music by singer-songwriter Jesse Dee, sample festive food, enjoy holiday cocktails and a poetry reading inspired by Mount Washington by Jeffrey Zygmont. Join Lauren Sansaricq, a landscape painter working in the tradition of the Hudson River School, for a brief conversation about her process. A cash bar and full menu are available at the Winter Garden Café. Activities are free with general admission, $5 special exhibition charge for Not-Yet-Members to view Mount Washington: The Crown of New England.

That same night, join us for Twilight Tours of our Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Zimmerman House at 5 and 6:30 p.m. Come experience the exceptional acoustics of the home with a live performance in the Garden Room as the sun sets. Twilight Tours at the Zimmerman House include Museum admission and a beverage of choice from the Winter Garden Café. Reservations required at CURRIER.ORG.

Museum Tours
Tours of the Museum are offered daily at 1 p.m. (except Tuesdays when the Museum is closed). Tours include an introduction to special exhibitions. Also, you can explore the collection in greater depth with our new mobile tour, available free to all Museum visitors. Public tours are free with Museum admission or on your smartphone at currier.toursphere.com. Assistive listening systems for sound amplification are available for tours and select programs.

Zimmerman House Public Tours
Zimmerman House tours provide visitors with a 90-minute exploration of the house with information about Frank Lloyd Wright’s architecture, the commission and design of the house and details about the Zimmermans, who lived in the house for 36 years. Take a tour Thursdays through Mondays at 11:30 a.m. or 2 p.m. Reservations are required. $20 Adults; $19 Seniors; $16 Students; $8 Children 7-17. *Tickets include admission to the Currier Museum. All Zimmerman House tours begin at the Currier.

Free New Hampshire Saturday

New Hampshire residents receive free Museum general admission before noon on the second Saturday of each month. Stop by and browse the galleries. There is a $5 special exhibition fee to see the Mount Washington exhibition. Members are free.

Second Sunday Jazz Brunch

Art, Adventure and Music

Ben Cosgrove is a Massachusetts-based composer, multi-instrumentalist, essayist and touring performer with a deep interest in the human relationship to landscape and place. He will perform works he created that were inspired by several weeks he spent in the White Mountains as an artist-in-residence. Free with Museum general admission.

Currier to Present Latest Collaboration Between NH Painter James Aponovich and NH Artist Laureate and Furniture Master David Lamb

Manchester, New Hampshire - On Thursday evening Nov. 1 at the Currier Museum of Art, the New Hampshire Furniture Masters Association and the Currier will unveil White Mountain Breakfront, also known as “Lambovich IV,” a monumental cabinet combining the artistry (as well as the names) of David Lamb and James Aponovich.

This collaborative piece of artwork features dramatic scenes of New Hampshire painted by Aponovich within a breakfront designed and crafted by Lamb. White Mountain Breakfront was commissioned by Shannon Chandley and Tom Silvia of Amherst, NH and celebrates the Granite State’s natural beauty, history and culture. It will be on view at the Currier through January 6, 2013.

November Schedule of Events at the Currier Museum of Art

Manchester, New Hampshire - On view now through January 6, 2013, the Currier Museum of Art presents Printmaking in the Age of Rembrandt which features prints by more than a dozen artists including Rembrandt van Rijn and his contemporaries. Visitors will explore the rich culture and history of the Netherlands in the 1600s when printmaking played a central role in the Dutch Golden Age and made art accessible to a much wider group of people than ever before.

Museum hours are Sunday, Monday, Wednesday - Friday 11 am–5 pm, Saturday 10 am–5 pm, with extended hours on the First Thursday of each month until 8. Closed Tuesday. Lethal Beauty: Samurai Weapons and Armor Coming to the Currier in February 2013

Manchester, NH is the only 2013 East-Coast venue for tour

Manchester, New Hampshire - On February 2, 2013 the Currier will present Lethal Beauty: Samurai Weapons and Armor, which will display the striking duality of deadly weaponry and artistic beauty from the samurai culture of centuries past. On view through May 5, the exhibition is curated by Dr. Andreas Marks, the director and chief curator of the Clark Center for Japanese Art and Culture, Hanford, California. With 63 works by 30 master craftsmen from the 13th to 20th centuries, Lethal Beauty features full suits of armor, helmets, warrior hats, face masks, long and short swords, daggers, rifles and more. 

Tales of the samurai have enchanted people for generations, and continue to delight and captivate audiences today. The oldest sword in the exhibition dates from the 1200s but is so finely crafted it has retained its lethal edge. The exhibition also showcases a pair of folding screens by a Kano school artist and a seven-piece set of sword fittings, both from the 1600s depicting battle scenes from the famous Tale of the Heike. The Tale of the Heike is one of the greatest warrior epics in Japanese literature and marks the dawn of samurai honor, valor and fortitude.

The Currier’s presentation of Lethal Beauty: Samurai Weapons and Armor is supported by the E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Foundation, Hitchiner Manufacturing Co., Inc., the Botnick Family Foundation/E&R Laundry and Dry Cleaners, and Northeast Delta Dental.
