Keene State Field Hockey Receives NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award; 12 Named To National Academic Squad

GILBERT, AZ – The NFHCA Office is pleased to announce that 130 Division III programs, including Keene State College have earned the 2017 Zag Field Hockey / NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award. The Division III National Academic Team Award recognizes those programs that earned a team GPA of 3.30 or higher during the Fall Semester of the 2017-18 academic year.

In addition, 12 members of the team were chosen to the National NFHCA Academic Squad.  The Division III National Academic Squad program recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2017-18 academic year.  KSC honorees included juniors Julia Babbitt, Mia Brickley, and Courtney Jessup, sophomores Erica Chareth, Hailey Beaupre, and Ally McCall, and freshmen McKenna Blean, Emily Bartlett, Nina Bruno, Rachel Loseby, Emily Moser, and Taylor Robison.

Second Half Surge Sends Keene State Past Plymouth State, 4-1

KEENE, N.H.-- Three second half goals broke open a close game as the Keene State College field hockey team emerged with a 4-1 win over Plymouth State University in Little East Conference action at Owl Athletic Complex on Tuesday night.

• Plymouth State was rewarded for their start, as the Owls were whistled for a penalty.  Katie Martin's stroke to the left side was just past the dive of Thayer for her ninth goal of the season
• The goal spurred Keene State into action, as Sami Smith, the nation's leading scorer, was stuffed by Alivia Bates in the ninth minute.  Smith thought she had tied the game in the 19th minute, but her shot was cleared off the line by Maddy Beatrice.
• Just before halftime, the Owls did tie the game.  Following a penalty corner, Marita Brothers corralled a loose ball and hammered home her second goal of the season past Bates.

Second Half Highlights 

• If the Panthers had a strong beginning to the first half, it was the Owls who came out firing to open the second.  Reigning LEC Rookie of the Week Jensyn Dandeneau tested Bates with a shot just 1:41 into the second half, and Sami Smith and Brittney Cardente shot wide.
• Keene State went ahead in the 57th minute, when Kayla Renaud's shot was spilled by Bates, and Kendal Brown was on hand to slot in the rebound for a KSC lead they would not relinquish.
• Brothers kept the Owls in front in the 64th minute of the game, hooking Rosalie Edmonds' cage bound effort out of the air to preserve the lead.
• Three minutes later, Sami Smith added an insurance goal with her 28th of the season, and Dandeneau added the icing on the cake with her sixth goal in her last four contests with 1:13 to play.

New England College: TWO EARLY GOALS LIFT FIELD HOCKEY PAST VISITING WELLS COLLEGE

Henniker, N.H. – New England College would use two first half goals to beat the visiting Wells College Express 2-1 in field hockey action Monday afternoon.

With the win the Pilgrims improve to 4-10 on the season, while the loss drops the Express to 4-10 overall.

SCORING

NEC would open the scoring just 3:39 into the game as Abigail Arsenault would put in a nice feed from Aislinn deHorsey to record her third goal of the season. The Pilgrims would then make it 2-0 in the 17th minute as Kayla Donahue would rebound in a shot that was originally turned away by Wells keeper Kelsey Kokosa.  Wells would cut the lead to 2-1 in the 25th minute as the Express would get off a flurry of shots and Nicole Sales would come through with a goal off a scrum in front of the net.

Neither team would muster a second half goal as the Pilgrims held the slight advantage in both shots and penalty corners, out shooting the Express 8-7 and hold the 6-5 advantage in corners.

GOALTENDING

NEC's Michaela Clark picked up the win in net for the Pilgrims finishing with six saves. 

Kelsey Kokosa recorded two saves in the loss for Wells.

Catamounts Top Siena, 5-2

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Greer Wilson and Isabella Sericolo scored their first collegiate goals and Lena Benwood made seven saves as the Vermont field hockey team picked up a 5-2 win over Siena at Moulton Winder Field on Friday.

Vermont is now 6-3 on the season and is 6-0 at home for the first time since 1979. Siena drops to 1-6 following the loss.

UVM's five goals on the day are also the team's most in a single game since the squad recorded the same in a 5-2 win over Dartmouth on Oct. 3, 2007.

The Catamounts struck first on a goal from Carla Godsman in the 27th minute. Taylor Gaines took a shot just inside the circle that was redirected by Sericolo, then corralled by Godsman and put home amid a scramble.

Wilson then doubled Vermont's lead in the 33rd minute after chasing down a loose ball in the circle. Following a penalty corner, Landon Warren sent a shot toward goal but had it deflected away. On the far side, Wilson found the ball on her stick and fired it home.

With just seconds remaining in the opening half, Godsman fed the ball in front of the cage, finding Sericolo at the goal-line to tap it in for the tally to move the score to 3-0 in favor of UVM.

The Saints narrowed the deficit to 3-1 in the 43rd minute on Fariyah Omarshah's fourth goal of the year. Omarshah dribbled into the circle and slipped a shot between the leg guards of Benwood for the score.

Vermont regained a three-goal lead in the 48th minute when Anne-Marie Farmer found the top left corner of the cage on a shot from just inside the penalty corner mark for her third goal.

Siena continued the exchange in the 55th minute when Fabiana Citro tapped the ball home amid a scramble in front of the cage.

UVM wrapped up the day's scoring in the 65th minute when Landon Warren took a centering pass from Godsman and sent the ball past a diving Mary Crumlish for her team-high seventh goal.

Crumlish turned aside 15 shots for Siena, the most of any goalkeeper Vermont has faced this season.

Friday's result also gave Benwood her 13th career win, moving her into sole possession of eighth place in program history. Shannon Kelly (1991-94) sits in seventh all-time with 15 victories.

The Catamounts conclude non-conference play on Sunday, traveling to Cornell for a 1 p.m. match with the Big Red in Ithaca, New York.

Castleton Field Hockey Falls to Nationally-Ranked Skidmore

CASTLETON, Vt. - The Castleton field hockey team suffered its fourth straight loss this afternoon to nationally-ranked Skidmore by a final score of 10-0.

The loss drops the Spartans to 2-5 overall, while Skidmore improves to 5-1 following the win.

The Thoroughbreds came out strong posting six goals by the midway point of the first half, including a pair each from Krista Lamoreaux and Gabby Hyman. Skidmore added three more goals over the final ten minutes of the first half to go into the break leading 9-0.

Castleton came out strong in the second half, tallying eight of the first ten shots. Despite stringing together six straight shots on goal over the course of a twenty-minute span in the second stanza, forcing Skidmore to use a timeout, the Spartans could not find the back of the cage. Mallory Perry of Skidmore scored on a feed from Becca Halter at the 28:34 mark of the second half to raise the score to 10-0, which would be the final.


Emily Lowell and Sarah Wells led the offense for Castleton with two shots on goal apiece, while Haley Spittle, Mia Sanborn, and Rachel Holland each added one.

Meeghan Doris started in the cage for the Spartans, facing 28 shots and tallying four saves over the game's first 35 minutes. Leah Holland was between the pipes for the second half and also tallied four saves while facing six shots.

Castleton will return to action with its first conference matchup of the season on Saturday. The Spartans will welcome UMaine-Farmington for a 1 p.m. contest at Spartan Stadium.

U.S. Olympic Women’s Field Hockey Team Captures Fourth Straight Victory Earning a Total of 12 Event Points

DEODORO, Brazil - They shook hands after a draw in Lancaster, Pa. knowing all too well it wasn’t over; there was more to the story. Only a few weeks before the Olympic Games during the Citi Rio Send-Off Series, India and the U.S. Olympic Women’s Field Hockey Team’s walked away with one win apiece. The moment to prove who has enough gusto to edge out the other was revealed on the ultimate stage at the Deodoro Olympic Park under the spotlight of watchful eyes of those in the stadium stands and those glued to their television sets at home. Keeping match tempo in fifth gear, Team USA drove hard, engines at full tilt for 60 minutes to leave the pitch as victors with a goal line 3-0. The missing element between the Citi Rio Send-Off Series and the Olympic Games? USWNT dynamite defender and captain Lauren Crandall (Doylestown, Pa.). A key contributor in the backfield and leadership, Crandall was out recovering and prepping in the weeks leading up to Rio. Castleton Auger and Wells Named Scholars of Distinction

CASTLETON, Vt. – Castleton field hockey players Cassidy Auger and Sarah Wells were named 2015 ZAG Field Hockey/NFHCA Division III Scholars of Distinction this morning, as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.

This is the second time in as many years that Auger has received the award, while Wells received the honor for the first time. Both players were also named to yesterday's National Academic Squad.

To be named a ZAG Field Hockey/NFHCA Scholar of Distinction, a student-athlete must have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher through the first semester of the 2015-16 academic year. To view the complete list of honorees, click here.

Keene State Field Hockey Crushes Castleton, 8-1

KEENE, N.H.-- Sami Smith, Julia Babbitt, and Kendal Brown each scored two goals as the Keene State College field hockey team rolled to an 8-1 win over Castleton University on Tuesday night at Owl Athletic Complex.

Keene State has won seven straight and improves to 11-4, while the Spartans fall to 4-7.

KSC got the ball rolling with three goals in a four minute span in the first half.  Brittney Cardente set up Haylie Dolan at the 12:13 mark to open the scoring, and Smith followed with two goals 32 seconds apart.

Marita Brothers was next in on the scoring in the 23rd minute, and Babbitt got her first in the 27th.  Brown completed the first half scoring with an unassisted tally in the 30th and another goal in the 35th.

Babbitt got her second of the game six minutes into the second half with the assist from classmate Erica Stauffer.  Sarah Wells broke up the shutout for Castleton with eight minutes left.

Meaghan Dwyer played the first 50 minutes and did not make a save, nor did Gwendolyn Thayer, who played 11:23.  Kendra Lonergan played the final 8:32.  Meeghan Doris made eight stops for Castleton.

Keene State returns to action on Friday night, playing host Eastern Connecticut State at 6 p.m.  The Spartans host Husson University on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.

#3 Field Hockey Eases Past #16 Tufts

Third-ranked Middlebury received two second-half goals from Annie Leonard, turning a 1-0 halftime advantage into a 3-0 victory over #16 Tufts on Bello Field. The Jumbos move to 7-3 overall and 5-2 in NESCAC play with the loss.  Middlebury (9-1, 5-1) will be back in action Sunday when it travels to Wesleyan for a noon start with the Cardinals, while the Jumbos host #14 Christopher Newport Monday at 2:00.

The action began slowly in the opening half, as the first shot on goal for either team came a little over 15 minutes into play from Middlebury's Anna Kenyon. She blasted the ball toward the net, but Tufts rookie net minder Emily Polinski made the save to keep the score locked at zero.

The Jumbos drew the first penalty corner with just under 15 minutes remaining in the half.  Jumbo rookie Hanaa Malik unleashed a shot, but Middlebury keeper Emily Miller made the save. Malik got her own rebound and tried again, but this time it was Jillian Green picking up the defensive save.

Middlebury hit its stride toward the end of the first half, drawing its first penalty corner with just under five minutes left. Molly Freeman sent a hard shot toward the open cage, but Tufts' Celia Lewis picked up the defensive save and kept the game scoreless.

A little more than two minutes later, the visitors drew another penalty corner and capitalized. Grace Jennings found Bridget Instrum in front of the net, as Instrum got the ball past Polinksi at 33:53 for her fifth goal of the season.

The Panthers put the pressure on the Jumbos early in the second half, inducing multiple penalty corners in the opening minutes. Middlebury increased its lead to 2-0 with the first of two goals from Annie Leonard. In the commotion in front of the net, Polinski came off her line to kick the ball away from the cage. The loose ball found the stick of Audrey Quirk, who sent a low pass to Leonard for the score at 52:51.

With a little more than five minutes remaining in the game, the Jumbos had a chance to score on a penalty corner, but Dakota Sikes-Keilp rifled a shot that was just wide of the cage.

The Panthers made it 3-0 with 45 seconds left to play on a breakaway from Leonard, who made a nice move around Polinski for her second of the game and ninth of the season.

The Panthers finished with the advantage in shots, 13-8, while the Jumbos had the advantage in corners, 6-4. Miller finished with five saves in the win for the Panthers, while Polinski made eight saves in the loss for the Jumbos.

Sizzling Smith Sends Keene State Over Bridgewater State

BRIDGEWATER, Mass.-- The visiting Keene State College field hockey team posted a 2-1 victory over Little East Conference rival Bridgewater State University on Saturday afternoon at Swenson Field.

The Owls improve to 10-4 on the season with their sixth straight win, and remain tied atop the Little East standings with a perfect 7-0 conference mark. The Bears fall to 7-5 overall and 4-3 in conference play.

Field Hockey Stays Perfect In LEC With 4-1 Win Over Southern Maine

GORHAM, Maine – Junior Sami Smith scored three goals in the opening 13 minutes to lead the Keene State College Owls to a 4-1 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference field hockey game Wednesday evening at Hannaford Field.

With its fifth consecutive win, Keene State remains undefeated in the Little East Conference at 6-0 and improves its overall record to 8-2.  Southern Maine falls to 5-8 overall and 2-4 in the LEC.

Smith was on the receiving end of three consecutive assists from classmate Kayla Reanud as the Owls set the tone. Jumping on top of the Huskies early, Smith notched the first of her three goals of the game with just 1:56 expired in the half.  Smith scored her second goal of the game in the 11th minute following a penalty corner.  Camped out in front of the goal, Smith was able to deflect a pass from Reanud for a 2-0 KSC advantage.  Three minutes later, the Owls led USM 3-0 as Smith and Renaud again connected for a goal – Smith's third of the game and team-leading 12th of the season.

Despite the three-goal flurry in the opening 15 minutes of action, the score remained 3-0 through the half.  KSC led USM 7-2 in shots in the first half and had a 5-3 advantage in penalty corners.  

Southern Maine opened the scoring in the second half, trimming its deficit to 3-1 in the 40th minute.

Husky senior Allison Ward scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season, knocking in a solid shot with a reverse stick play.  The Huskies' pressed for a second goal, but were unable to break through.  KSC's Renaud, who assisted in all three of the Owls' first half goals, sealed the win for her team in the 66th minute with an unassisted score on a hustle play for the 4-1 final.

KSC senior Meaghan Dwyer earned the win making one save on two shots on goal in 66:32 of action.  Sophomore Casi Smith helped Dwyer's cause making a defensive save in the first half.  

Sophomore Kendra Lonergan played the final 3:28 of the game and did not face a shot.  Southern Maine juniorAmanda Kasbohm made six saves in the loss.

Southern Maine travels to Western Connecticut State on Sunday (11:00 a.m.) in a Little East Conference match up for its next contest.  Keene State travels to Bridgewater State on Saturday (4:00 p.m.).

Cardente's Goal Sends Keene State Past Johnson & Wales

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Playing in her home state, Brittney Cardente netted the only goal of the game to lead the Keene State College field hockey team to a 1-0 win over Johnson & Wales University on Monday night.

The Owls have won four in a row and improve to 8-4.  The Wildcats fall to 2-9.

It was Johnson & Wales who had the first sniff of goal in the game, as Giovanna Ciavadoni forced a save out of Meaghan Dwyer, but it was all Owls from there.

KSC outshot the Wildcats 14-1 in the half, but could not salve JWU goalie Shannon Yoder, who made a double stop on Kayla Renaud and Cardente in the 10th minute, and denied Sami Smith on three different occasions in the first half.

The Owls kept pouring on the pressure in the second half, as Yoder denied Mariah Barnett on both her initial attempt and the rebound in the 39th minute, and finally went in front in the 57th minute when Renaud fed Cardente for her first of the season.

Keene State finished with a 28-2 advantage in shots.  Yoder made 17 saves, while Dwyer made two stops.

The Owls return to LEC play by traveling to Southern Maine on Wednesday night for a 4 p.m. start.

Field Hockey Earns First Conference Win Against UMass Lowell

BURLINGTON, Vt. – At UVM's annual Rally Against Cancer contest, three different Catamounts found the back of the cage and Vermont held off a UMass Lowell rally to win its first conference game of the season, 3-2, over the River Hawks.

Hu and Donald Help Dartmouth to 5-2 Win at Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Julia Donald and Rebecca Hu each netted a pair of goals Sunday afternoon as the visiting Dartmouth field hockey team defeated Providence, 5-2, at Lennon Family Field.

The Big Green improved to 4-5 overall with the win, while the Friars fall to 2-10.

Donald wasted little time in scoring her first of the afternoon and her seventh of the season, finding the back of the net just 23 seconds into the contest. She notched her second seven and a half minutes later to build the Dartmouth lead to a pair.

Hu scored her second and third goals of the weekend in the outing as well, netting her first of the day

Spartans Complete Comeback, Win 4-3 in Overtime at NEC

HENNIKER, N.H. – The Castleton field hockey team completed a two-goal comeback Saturday evening, winning in overtime by a final score of 4-3 at New England College in a North Atlantic Conference matchup.

Sarah Wells secured the come-from-behind victory for the Spartans, scoring 4:24 into the overtime period. Wells finished with one goal and one assist in the game, as did Haley Spittle and Rachel Holland

The win moves the Spartans to 3-6 overall, and 1-1 in NAC play. With the loss, NEC moves to 2-10 overall and 0-2 in conference action.

The Pilgrims got on the board first, scoring just 5:29 into the action when Kayla Donahue took a pass from Carissa O'Brien and found the back of the cage. After more than 20 minutes of scoreless play following the goal, Donahue scored once again to double the Pilgrim lead to 2-0, this time scoring on a pass from Cody Kent.

Emily Lowell would answer back just over one minute later to bring the Spartan deficit back to just one goal when she powered one home on an assist from Wells. NEC would not let up, however, and found the back of the cage once more at 32:01, when Kent scored one of her own on an assist from Donahue to send the Pilgrims into the break with a 3-1 lead.

Castleton came out of halftime firing, scoring just 3:37 into the second half when Spittle took a pass from Holland and buried one to cut the lead to just one goal with more than 30 minutes to play in the game.

The Spartans would battle back to get the equalizer with just over four minutes to play when Holland found the back of the cage on an assist from Spittle during a penalty corner to draw the game even at 3-3 and send it to overtime.

Just over four minutes into the overtime period, Castleton would complete their comeback as Wells found the back of the net on a pass from Cassidy Auger to give the Spartans the victory.

Meeghan Doris stopped two shots in the victory for the Spartans, while Michaela Clark stopped 27 shots for NEC in the loss.

The Spartans held a 32-7 shot advantage in the game, while putting 27 shots on goal to the Pilgrims' 5. Castleton also held a 14-2 advantage in penalty corners in the contest.

Holland Lifts Spartans to Late Victory

CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton field hockey team picked up their second win in as many days on Sunday afternoon, defeating St. Joseph's (Me.) by a final score of 2-1 in a non-conference contest.
Rachel Holland buried the game-winning goal on a penalty stroke with just 4:03 to play for the Spartans.

The win moves the Spartans to 4-6 overall, while St. Joseph's (Me.) is now 6-4.

Neither team could find much offense in the first half, as the squads went into the break locked in a scoreless draw. The Monks held an 11-1 shot advantage in the first half, as well as a 6-1 edge in both shots on goal and penalty corners.

Castleton came out firing, as Anna-Michelle Fabian broke the scoreless tie just over two minutes into the second half. Haley Spittle found Fabian in front of the cage on a pass from the endline to make it 1-0 in favor of the home team.

St. Joseph's would score the equalizer nearly 20 minutes later, when Kelsey Dumond took a pass from Amanda Celata on a penalty corner and blasted one past the Spartan goalie.

With time winding down, the Monks scored what looked to be the go-ahead goal, however the call was quickly overturned the by officials, who ruled that the ball glanced off the body of a St. Joseph's player.

Minutes later, Spartans were awarded a penalty stroke after a physical encounter in the shooting circle. Holland stepped to the line and drove one into the upper-left side of the cage to give Castleton a 2-1 advantage with just over four minutes remaining, a score that would hold until the final whistle.
Meeghan Doris stopped seven shots in the win, while Gabrielle Ryan chipped in with three defensive saves for the Spartans. Emma Astbury stopped two shots for the Monks in the game.

St. Joseph's (Me.) held a 21-9 shot advantage in the contest, while taking 11 penalty corners to Castleton's four.

Castleton is back in action on Friday, Oct. 9, when they host Colby-Sawyer. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Spartan Stadium.

Field Hockey Falls 4-1 at No. 6 Albany

ALBANY, N.Y. – Meg Carroll (Mansfield, Mass.) scored a late goal but the University of New Hampshire field hockey team was defeated 4-1 Sunday afternoon by sixth-ranked University at Albany at Alumni Turf.

UNH is now 4-6 overall and 1-1 in America East. Albany improved to 9-1, 2-0 America East. The Great Danes finished with a 15-7 shot advantage, including 8-3 on goal, as well as a 3-1 edge in penalty corners.

UNH goalkeeper Melissa Rize (Severn, Md.) was credited with four saves. Courtney Sweeny (Windham, N.H.) recorded her first career point with an assist on Carroll's goal.

Albany goalie Maxi Praus stopped two shots. Anna Bottino led the offense with a goal and an assist. Camryn Dias, Frederike Helmke and Liza Morgan scored the other goals.

Field Hockey Drops Ivy League Road Tilt at Brown, 2-1

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island – The Dartmouth field hockey team dropped an Ivy League road contest Saturday morning at Brown, 2-1. 

 

Rebecca Hu scored the Big Green’s lone goal of the contest in the 11th minute, while goalkeeper Paige Duffy stopped five shots in the losing effort.

Brown (4-5, 1-1 Ivy) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute on a goal from Alexis Miller following a corner play. Emily Arciero and Anna Masini — sister of former Big Green (3-5, 0-2 Ivy) player Lisa Masini ’13 — picked up the helpers on the play.

That one-goal advantage lasted just under three minutes as Hu jumped on a rebound after a Dartmouth penalty corner and buried a shot into the back of the net for the unassisted equalizer.
The home team wasted little time in regaining the lead as Ellie Seid notched an unassisted marker in the 15th minute.

Neither team was able to find the scoring touch the rest of the way as a defensive battle ensued for the final 55:12 of play.

Part of that defensive battle was in the form of a defensive save by Clare Detrick-Yee on the Big Green side and another by Maddie Ayles for the Bears.

Brown goalkeeper Kattie Hammaker picked up the win, matching Duffy save-for-save and finishing with five.

Dartmouth finished the contest with edges in shots (20-15) and penalty corners (10-9).

There is little time for rest as the Big Green are back in action on Sunday down the road against the Providence Friars.

Doris Named Corvias ECAC Defensive Player of the Week

CASTLETON, Vermont – Meeghan Doris was selected as Corvias ECAC Defensive Player of the Week for the New England Region today following her performance in the cage a week ago.

Doris had a strong week for the Spartans, tallying 25 saves--including two key saves on penalty strokes against Thomas--en route to a 1-1 record. Doris allowed just three goals in two games, posting a save percentage .893 on the week. Doris had her fifth game of the season with double-digit saves against Thomas on Friday evening, racking up 18 stops in a narrow 2-1 defeat.

This is the first time that Doris has earned the honor of ECAC Defensive Player of the Week for the Spartans. Doris currently ranks seventh in the nation in saves per game, averaging more than 14 stops per contest.

The Spartans are back in action on Saturday when they travel to New England College. Game time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.

Spartans Downed by No. 14 Amherst

AMHERST, Massachusetts – The Castleton field hockey team could not withstand the powerful offense of No. 14 Amherst on Tuesday evening, falling by a final score of 11-0.

The loss moves the Spartans to 2-6 overall, while Amherst moves to 5-2 with their third consecutive victory.

Meeghan Doris stopped 10 shots, while Sarah Wells recorded two shots for the Spartans in the contest.

Amherst got on the board early, when Sara Culhane found the back of the cage on a pass from Caroline Feeley just 55 seconds into the contest. Amherst would double their lead less than four minutes later when Elizabeth Turnbull scored unassisted. Culhane would chip in a second goal in the first half, while Katie Paolano scored twice for the home team. Feeley, Annika Nygren, and Katie Bergamesca would all add one goal each in the first half.

The Spartans stepped up their defense in the second half, allowing just three goals. Jaime Nolan recorded two defensive saves for Castleton, with Rachel Holland chipping in one of her own.

Doris stopped 10 of the 18 shots that she faced on the night, and Leah Holland tallied three saves in the second half of action for the Spartans. Emily Horwitz and Surya Adams each stopped two shots en route to a combined shutout.

The Purple & White held a 35-5 shot advantage in the game, as well as holding a 13-5 penalty corners advantage.

Castleton is back in action on Saturday at New England College. The North Atlantic Conference matchup is slated for 5:00 p.m.
