DURHAM, N.H  –  The University of New Hampshire men's basketball team defeated Binghamton, 79-72 on Saturday afternoon from Lundholm Gymnasium.
 

Junior guard Sami Pissis (Paris, France) scored his UNH career-high of 30 points and recorded three rebounds for the Wildcats. Junior guard Anthony McComb III (Dayton, Ohio) added 13 points for the 'Cats.

Reynolds Lifts ‘Cats over Rams in Overtime, 4-3

Reynolds’ first goal as a Wildcat starts the season off strong.

KINGSTON, R.I.  – University of New Hampshire junior transfer Ally Reynolds (Weymouth, Mass.)  tallied her first goal as a Wildcat, and it came with just 52 seconds remaining in the first overtime period, as the Wildcats defeated the Rhode Island Rams 4-3 on Thursday evening.

The other three Wildcat goals came from sophomore Sofia Borea (Oakville, Ontario) and Megan Kikosicki (East Haven, Conn.). Borea and Kikosicki each tallied a goal in the first, and Casey Peterson (Clifton, Va.) scored the equalizer late in the second half. Peterson also had two assists on the evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Wildcats got off to a strong start, tallying three shots on goal and two corner kicks in the first 12 minutes of play. All three shots on goal came within two minutes of each other.
- New Hampshire continued the attack, and a corner kick by Casey Peterson found Sofia Borea for the season's first score, putting the 'Cats up 1-0 in the 35th minute.
- Peterson was in on a scoring play again, sending in a cross to Belle Pesante (Wakefield, R.I.) who found Kikosicki for second goal of the game. The goal came just five minutes after the first, as the Wildcats went into halftime up 2-0.
- The Rams answered back in the second half with two quick goals in the 70th and 71st minutes. Both goals came off long crosses from the right side to tie the game at 2-all.
- Just seven minutes later the Rams took their first lead of the game on a one-timer from another long cross.
- The 'Cats got a couple good chances in the 84th and a blocked shot found Kikosicki, who found Peterson, who tied the game at 3-all.
- Both teams had their chances in the first overtime period, but with just 52 seconds remaining in the first overtime period, Reynolds got the ball to the top of the box and beat the keeper high to claim the walk off victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The Rams committed seven fouls in the first half, to UNH's four.
- URI's three goals in the second half came within nine minutes of each other.
- The Wildcats outshot the Rams 24-12 in the game, 12-8 in shots on goal.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Borea's goal was the first of her career, after tallying an assist in her freshman season in 2017.
- Kikosicki's goals were her first since her freshman season where she tallied two goals and an assist.

University of New Hampshire Women's Lax Presents Donation to Seacoast Cancer Center

UNH Raised $1,100 at All 'Cats Wear Pink Event

DOVER, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team visited the Seacoast Cancer Center at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital on April 18 in conjunction with its first ever All 'Cats Wear Pink fundraiser.

The All 'Cats Wear Pink event was held April 9, when UNH played host to the University of Vermont in an America East conference matchup. Both New Hampshire and Vermont wore pink shooting shirts during pre-game warmups and identical long-sleeved t-shirts were sold as part of the fund raising effort. There was also an opportunity to win a UNH Women's Lacrosse prize pack, which included UNH gear and a gift card to Kittery Trading Post, by making a donation to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.

Proceeds from that game totaled $1,100 and the money was presented by the UNH women's lacrosse team to employees and staff of the Seacoast Cancer Center. The center is the largest comprehensive cancer care provider on the Seacoast. Each year, it provides exceptional care to over 1,000 patients from 50 cities and towns throughout New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts. Fundraising proceeds pay for the expenses that improve patient outcomes but are not covered by insurance.

The All 'Cats Wear Pink game was the highest-attended UNH women's lax home game of the 2016 season thanks to the support of area club teams, all of whom competed in a halftime shooting competition. The Wildcats went on to win the game, 12-9, to mark New Hampshire's first victory vs. UVM since 2010. The UNH women's lax team signed autographs after the game to cap an exciting day and successful fund raising event.

A special thanks to the UVM women's lacrosse team for its support in this fundraising endeavor. With their support, the Wildcats and Catamounts proved that All 'Cats Wear Pink.

UNH Men’s Soccer Announces 2016 Spring Slate

Leissner Notches 28 points, 10 boards but Men’s Hoops Fell to Vermont, 63-56, in AE Semis

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Sophomore Tanner Leissner (Converse, Texas) finished with 28 points and 10 rebounds as the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team fell to the University of Vermont, 63-56, in the America East Playoffs semifinals, Monday night at Patrick Gymnasium.

The Wildcats' season ends with an overall record of 19-12, matching the program's single season wins record, and a conference record of 11-5. Vermont moves on to the title game against Stony Brook University next weekend. The Wildcats played in the semifinals in back-to-back seasons.

HIGHLIGHTS

• Leissner totaled his sixth double-double of the season on 12 of 25 shooting.
• Junior Jaleen Smith (Freeport, Texas) finished with 14 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

Belanger Scores 23, Women's Hoops Falls to Maine in AE Quarterfinals

Binghamton, N.Y.  – Senior guard Elizabeth Belanger (Acton, Mass.) closed out her career with a team-high 23 points, but the UNH women's basketball dropped its America East quarterfinal game with Maine, 58-47, on Saturday at the Events Center at Binghamton University.

The Wildcats closed the season with a 12-18 overall record. Maine improved to 25-7 with its 13^th straight win and advances to the semifinals on Sunday.

Belanger moved up another spot on both UNH's career scoring and rebounding lists. She finishes No. 5 in scoring with 1,453 points and No. 7 in rebounding with 703. She is one of three Wildcats in program history to score more than 1,400 points and grab more than 700 rebounds.

HIGHLIGHTS

• Belanger scored more than 20 points for the third straight game and 12^th time this season.
• Her 23 points gave her 513 points for the season, the eighth best single-season total in school history.
• Sophomore Carlie Pogue (Cincinnati, Ohio) joined Belanger in double figures with 11 points.
• Pogue led the Wildcats in rebounds with six.
• Freshman forward Ashley Storey (Cumberland, Maine) had six points and four rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

UNH stayed with the Black Bears, who went 15-1 in America East during the regular season, throughout the game.

The Wildcats trailed 33-27 at the half. Baskets by Belanger and Storey cut Maine's lead to 39-36 after three periods.

A layup and foul shot by sophomore guard Peyton Booth (Wadsworth, Ohio) again made it a three-point game at 46-43 with 4:43 to play. Sigi Koizar, who led Maine with 23 points, answered with her own basket and foul shot.

UNH pulled to within 51-47 when Belanger banked in a shot in the lane with 1:11 to go. Liz Wood responded with a bucket inside and Maine closed it out with foul shots.

UNH Women’s Track Assistant Coach Hoppler Named Northeast Assistant Coach of the Year

NEW ORLEANS – Assistant coach Robert Hoppler of the University of New Hampshire women's track & field team was named NCAA Division I Northeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Friday.

In his 17^th year with the program, Hoppler has led the UNH cross country program to a third consecutive America East championship in the fall and most recently coached the track & field team to a runner up finish at the league championships.

"I would like to thank the coaches association for this honor as well as the student-athletes of the University of New Hampshire cross country and track & field program for all the hard work and dedication," said Hoppler. "It is a privilege to coach a great group of athletes. I would also like to thank coach Boulanger for his leadership of the entire program as the director."

So far this year, Hoppler has coached three top-10 finishers at the America East Cross Country Championships as well as five champions at the America East Indoor Track & Field Championships.

On the national level, Hoppler guided senior Laura Rose Donegan (Melbourne, Australia) to a 30^th place finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championships and also coached sophomore Elinor Purrier (Montgomery, Vt.) to the fastest collegiate mile in the country as she is set to compete at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships next weekend. Just this season, six school records were broken by student-athletes under the guidance of coach Hoppler.

Hoppler earned the same honor last spring after a successful outdoor season.

Clancy Records Career-High 13 Saves; Women's Lax Falls to Fairfield, 16-6

• Devon Croke (Norwell, Mass.) scored an unassisted goal at 18:39 of the first half to pull UNH within 3-2, but Fairfield scored four goals in a span of 2 minutes, 45 seconds to build a 7-2 advantage at 14:22; the Wildcats never got closer than four goals the rest of the way.

UNH Men’s Hockey Outlasts Bentley, 5-4

Boucher's Two Goals Lifts Women's Ice Hockey Past Rensselaer, 2-1

TROY, N.Y. – Amy Boucher (Edmonton, Alberta) scored two goals and Haley Breedlove (Plano, Texas) recorded two assists to lift the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team to Saturday afternoon's 2-1 victory against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at Houston Field House.

UNH improved to 4-0-1 lifetime against the Engineers to improve to 4-13-1 overall this season. Rensselaer, which rallied for Friday's 3-3 tie vs. the Wildcats, is now 4-8-2.

UNH SEASON PREVIEW: Women's Swimming & Diving Raring to Start the 2015-16 Season

DURHAM, N.H. -- Coming off a season that culminated with a high conference finish and several name changes on the Swasey Pool record board, the University of New Hampshire women's swimming & diving team has elevated expectations for the 2015-16 season. Head coach Josh Willman, beginning his 23rd season at UNH, is set to guide an enthusiastic and motivated squad that is capable of accomplishing great things.

After coming within 14 points of claiming an America East crown, the Wildcats look to compete for another banner and send representatives to the NCAA Championships. Aside Willman, a 13-time America East and four-time ECAC Coach of the Year, he will be assisted by associate head coach Jarrod Zwirko for the eighth consecutive season. Also returning is second-year volunteer assistant coach Melissa Hubley. Diving coach Lindsay Close is the most recent addition to the deck and will look to make the diving contingent a force to be reckoned with.

Dorsey and Murphy Score but Women’s Soccer Falls 3-2 to Stony Brook

Stony Brook, N.Y. – Freshman Gaby Dorsey (Hubertus, Wis.) and sophomore Brooke Murphy (Monson, Mass.) scored late in the second half but it wasn't enough as the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team was defeated 3-2 by Stony Brook University, Sunday afternoon at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.

The Wildcats fell to 6-6-3 overall and 4-1-0 in the America East, after winning the first four conference games this season. The Seawolves improved to 5-7-2 overall and 2-2-0 in conference.

Women's Hockey Edged 3-2 by Syracuse

DURHAM, N.H. – Amy Schlagel (Blaine, Minn.) and Amy Boucher (Edmonton, Alberta) both scored goals as the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team battled back from a pair of two-goal deficits, but Syracuse University prevailed 3-2 Saturday afternoon at the Whittemore Center.

UNH is now 0-3-0 while Syracuse moves to 1-2-0. The Wildcats recorded a 17-15 shot advantage and went 1-for-3 on the power play. The Orange, who scored one goal each period, was 1 of 5 on the power play.

Sara Carlson (Hutchinson, Minn.) recorded an assist on both goals to match her career high of two. Kyra Smith (Littleton, Colo.) made 12 saves, including six in the first period, in her collegiate debut.

NCAA Announces UNH and Verizon Wireless Arena as Hosts of 2017 Men’s Hockey Northeast Regional

INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Committee announced that the University of New Hampshire in conjunction with the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H. will host the 2017 Division I Men's Ice Hockey Northeast Regional March 25-26.

"We are excited to once again be able to play host to the NCAA hockey regionals in Manchester," said Marty Scarano, UNH Director of Athletics. "Tim Bechert and his staff at SMG are tremendous partners, the Verizon Wireless Arena is a first-class venue, and our goal remains to give our fans the chance to see the Wildcats compete right here in New Hampshire for a spot in the Frozen Four."

The 2017 season will mark the seventh time UNH hosts a men's ice hockey regional at the Verizon

Bramanti, Smith, Armstrong Named 2015-16 Men’s Basketball Captains

DURHAM, N.H. – Head coach Bill Herrion of the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team has announced juniors Joe Bramanti (Andover, Mass.), Jaleen Smith (Freeport, Texas) and Jacoby Armstrong (Sachse, Texas) as tri-captains for the 2015-16 season.

"We are excited to have Joe, Jaleen and Jacoby as our three captains this year," said Herrion. "All three of those players have veteran experience at UNH with many minutes. Great leadership is the most important quality we wanted in our captains this year as we enter this new season."

Bramanti returns as captain, after fulfilling the role last season. The guard started in 19 of 25 games played, averaging 4.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. Following the season, he was named to the America East All-Defensive Team and the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court, recognizing men's collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in the classroom during the season.

Smith earns his first bid as captain for the program following a stellar 2014-15 season. The guard earned America East All-Championship Team honors following his play during the conference postseason. Throughout 32 games played, he ranked second on the team in points at 10.7 per game, led the Wildcats with 2.8 assists per game and recorded the highest free throw percentage on the squad, 80.5 percent. On the defensive end, he notched 43 steals to pace the team and ranked second in rebounds at 5.2 a game.

Armstrong earns captaincy after ranking third in points per game last season (9.9). He started in 26 of 32 games played and finished with 4.1 rebounds per game and 16 blocks. The forward led the team with a 51.5 percent (124 of 241) mark from the field. He was named to the America East All-Conference Third Team following the regular season, one of five Wildcats to receive postseason awards.

Crossan Named Madness CAA Football Offensive Player of the Week

DURHAM, N.H. – Dalton Crossan (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.), a junior running back on the No. 20/23 University of New Hampshire football team, was named the Madness CAA Football Offensive Player of the Week by College Sports Madness on Sunday.

Crossan scored four first-half rushing touchdowns to propel the Wildcats to a 34-0 lead en route to a 37-14 victory against Elon University on Oct. 3. His 36-yard scamper opened the game scoring just 75 seconds into the game. He crossed the goal line again on a one-yard plunge with 33 seconds left in the first quarter as well as at 13:37 (eight-yard run) and 4:49 (two yards) of the second quarter.

At the end of the first half, Crossan had already totaled 93 rushing yards on 12 carries.

Crossan's four TDs marked a personal best, as did his 22 carries and 140 rushing yards; it was, in fact, the first 100-yard rushing game of his career. Crossan averaged 6.4 yards per carry and finished with 177 all-purpose yards.

Field Hockey Falls 4-1 at No. 6 Albany

ALBANY, N.Y. – Meg Carroll (Mansfield, Mass.) scored a late goal but the University of New Hampshire field hockey team was defeated 4-1 Sunday afternoon by sixth-ranked University at Albany at Alumni Turf.

UNH is now 4-6 overall and 1-1 in America East. Albany improved to 9-1, 2-0 America East. The Great Danes finished with a 15-7 shot advantage, including 8-3 on goal, as well as a 3-1 edge in penalty corners.

UNH goalkeeper Melissa Rize (Severn, Md.) was credited with four saves. Courtney Sweeny (Windham, N.H.) recorded her first career point with an assist on Carroll's goal.

UNH Volleyball Sweeps UAlbany for Fourth Straight Win

ALBANY, New York -- Junior middle blocker Demi Muses (Orangevale, Calif.) recorded a double-double in just three sets to help guide the University of New Hampshire volleyball team to a triumph over the University at Albany in straight sets Friday night at University Gymnasium.

The set scores were 25-22, 25-20 and 25-21.

UNH wins its fourth consecutive match and ups its overall record to 10-7 and 2-0 in America East play. UAlbany drops its first conference match of the season and slips to 6-8, 1-1. The Wildcats notch their 13^th straight win versus a conference opponent.

Miller Rejoins Men’s Basketball as Graduate Student Manager

DURHAM, New Hampshire – Head coach Bill Herrion of the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team announced Friday the hiring of former standout Matt Miller '15 as the team's graduate student manager.

Miller returns to UNH after a stellar senior season on the court. In 2014-15, he was instrumental in one of the program's most successful seasons. Miller averaged 9.9 points per game, which ranked third on the team, while starting in 16 of 29 games played.

The America East All-Conference Third Team member transferred to UNH from Seton Hill University prior to the 2012-13 season although he was unable to play that season due to NCAA transfer regulations. A year later, injuries sidelined him for the entire 2013-14 campaign.

However, Miller was healthy and eligible to play in 2014-15. He led the America East in 3-point field goal percentage with a 48.1 clip from beyond the arc. His most memorable performance with the 'Cats was his highlight-reel shooting effort on Senior Night against the University of Maine (Feb. 28). Miller drained six 3-pointers and scored a season-high 24 points to lift UNH to a 65-56 victory.

His accurate outside shooting played a critical role in propelling UNH's postseason run. New Hampshire defeated the University of Hartford at home in the quarterfinals before traveling to the University at Albany where they fell 60-58. The team was then invited to play at the CollegeInsider.com Tournament against New Jersey Institute of Technology, the team's first national tournament in program history. Overall, New Hampshire put together a 19-win season, tying the 1994-95 campaign for the most victories in program history, including 12 wins at Lundholm Gymnasium to set a new record.

University of New Hampshire Makes Library Closing Time Interesting

Durham, New Hampshire - Patrons of the Dimond Library at the University of New Hampshire who find themselves still there at closing time have a friendly reminder when it comes to packing up for the night. Make that a familiar friendly reminder.

The recorded announcements telling students the library is about to close are the voices of head football coach Sean McDonnell, head hockey coach Dick Umile, and chief faculty marshal Nancy Kinner, whose message includes a rendition of her annual commencement serenade, “Happy Trails.” The trio joins President Mark Huddleston who was enlisted last year to make a closing alert.

Tracey Lauder, assistant dean for library administration, came up with the idea of using well-known people on campus to record the announcements while she was watching an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie where he famously announces “Get ouuuut.”

“For some reason I just thought it would be really fun to hear Ahhnold say ‘Can I have your attention please… the library is now closing… you need to get ouuuuut, but can come baaaaack tomorrow,” Lauder says. “Then I decided to look closer to home for interesting voices.”

The first alert is heard at 1:45 a.m., announcing the library will be closing in 15 minutes, and commending students for their hard work. Kinner sings “Happy trails to you, it’s time to head on home. Happy trails to you, to the circulation desk you should roam.”  At 2 a.m., the “now closed” recording airs.

“I just wanted to make studying so late a wee bit more fun for our hard-working students,” Lauder says.

Other “celebrities” are being approached with the hopes of adding to the recording cast.
