Musician Spotlight: Rising UK Singer/Songwriter Natalie Tuvey‏

We travel across the Atlantic Ocean to find a Singer/Songwriter that caught our eyes for her great vocals from Harrogate, United Kingdom. This Singer/Songwriter is Natalie Tuvey, who is just 13 years of age. If you listen to Natalie songs, you will see why she is just getting started on her Singing/Songwriting career. Natalie Tuvey has three original songs entitled "Tear Me Apart", "Stronger This Time" and "Broken Grey Heart".

Natalie Tuvey is a 13 year old singer/songwriter from Yorkshire in the UK. Natalie started singing at a very young age and at age 10 she started with a local musical theatre company where she was able to combine acting, singing & dance. Natalie immediately took to all 3, however it was obvious and quickly noticed by the singing teacher that her voice was a little bit different to other people & very strong for her age and she appeared on 2 occasions in the theatre performing solo pieces from Les Miserable & High school Musical.

Natalie at age 11 started to have private vocal lessons and worked towards examinations with the London College Of Music in both Musical Theatre & Classical. She very quickly had reached a grade 4 in both, passing with extremely high results again for someone of her age. She gained all distinctions.

It was at the age of 11 that Natalie first went into a recording studio and felt right at home as she started to record some of her favourite cover songs. She also started to write her own songs and very quickly realised that she had a great ear for melodies and her lyrics were very advanced for someone of her age.

At the age of 12 she got the chance to go record one of the songs that she had written the year before called "Broken Grey Heart" It was then that she realised that songwriting and singing was her passion and she knew that she wanted to be a recording artist.

This past year Natalie has started to learn the keyboard/piano to help with her with her songwriting and to date has written an amazing 15 songs, quite an achievement for someone so young.

She has been able to record 4 at present, "Broken Grey Heart", Stronger This Time", Tear Me Apart" and her 4th "In Love With You" which is ready for release next week.

Her song "Tear Me Apart" has gained Natalie a lot of attention worldwide and came 1st place in the Beat100 music charts, an online music competition, beating over 2,000 entrants. It has received over 147,000 views on youtube in 8 weeks which is quite an achievement for an original song, and is currently being played on various radio stations in the UK along with her other song "Stronger This Time".

Her youtube channel has nearly reached a million video views.

Natalie plans to release her debut album by mid 2013.

Although Natalie is committed to writing her own songs because of her unique sound she is attracting interest from music producers across the globe and she is keen to try different genres which include projects with producers in Mexico, London & her hometown of York.

Natalie has been invited to perform her first gig where she will perform 2 of her original songs for Famestage on Halloween at a very intimate and well known venue in London UK with 5 other amazing artists. This venue has seen the likes of Ed Sheeran & Queen perform in the past & Eric Clapton lived there, so it has a lot of history. The gig was sold out in 10 days. She plans to do more live gigs in 2013

We all feel that 2013 is going to be a big year for Natalie

When did you start singing?
I have been singing for as long as I can remember. My parents said I could sing before I could talk.

Was it your dream to be a singer?
It has always been my dream to become a singer. There is nothing i have ever wanted more and as i get older and carry on with my own music the dream gets stronger.

Tell us about your style of singing?
My singing style is mainly pop but i like to try different genres, i really like country and musical theatre.

Are there challenges pursuing a singing career?
Yes, it takes a lot of dedication, time and effort and i am trying to get across in my music my own originality which is always quite difficult as you don't know how people will take it. Up until now everyone has been so great and my fans are brilliant!:)

Does your parents and friends support you?
Yes my parents are my biggest supporters and without them none of this would be possible! My friends are a great support too.

Do you write your own songs?
Yes, I started to write my own songs when I was 10. To date I have written 25, 4 of which I have been lucky enough to record and 1 of which is on itunes. I plan to have my debut album ready to release mid 2013.

If so, tell us what goes into writing a great song?
To write a great song for me, you need to think of a subject. Perhaps something that has happened in your life or even something you would like to happen! You need your song to tell a story that people can relate to and get it across to the audience in a way that they want more. Make it a song they will find hard to forget and be singing in their heads all day!

Where was your first performance, were you excited?
My first performance was when I was 5 and it was to about 200 people. I sang a solo piece at a christmas show. I was very nervous but also very excited, and after doing it i felt very happy.

Where have you been able to perform?
If I'm honest I haven't had a chance to properly get out there and perform yet how I would like to. However I have performed at local theatres in front of 300-500 people and in local community halls and churches. My first real performance will be on halloween in london, a very intimate venue where the likes of ed sheeran and queen have previously played. I will be performing with some amazing artists!

Who inspires you with your singing and songwriting?
Taylor Swift inspires me because she started at such a young age and I love all her music!
Adele inspires me with her amazing voice that i could listen to all day.
Bruno Mars, he is an amazing songwriter and his voice is unique:)
The Script (don't know if you know them) but their music is amazing and nearly all of it is there own, all their songs tell a story and they're so good and catchy!

If you could perform anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
I would love to perform at any arena, anywhere in the world but my favourite place would be the main stage at glastonbury festival in england!

I would love to perform with Danny O'Donoghue ( who is a member of the script ) because i love his voice:)
Or Bruno Mars because i think he'd be fun to perform with.

What are some of your goals for your Music?
Some of my goals are to; release an album next year, perform more live gigs, try different genres of music and to collab with some other amazing artists!

What do you hope to accomplish with your singing/songwriting?
I hope to become an established and well known artist, not only for my singing but also for my songwriting. I would also like to write songs for other artists. To get a recording contract with one of the big major labels.

Do you have any advice for those wanting to start a career in singing and songwriting?
To never ever give up on your dream and don't ever let anybody stop you from trying to reach your goals. Enjoy what you do and make sure you're dedicated and always believe in yourself.

Is there anything else you want our readers to know about you, your singing/songwriting?
I'm just a normal girl who has a dream and loves to sing:-)

Do you have any other talents?
Other than my singing and songwriting I play the piano. I also love acting

Rocky Coast News is pleased to have Natalie Tuvey as our latest "Musician Spotlight", where we highlight, promote up and coming musicians that have amazing vocals, sound, style and/or who are able to play an instrument well singing.

Manchester, NH is the only 2013 East-Coast venue for tour
Manchester, New Hampshire - On February 2, 2013 the Currier will present Lethal Beauty: Samurai Weapons and Armor, which will display the striking duality of deadly weaponry and artistic beauty from the samurai culture of centuries past. On view through May 5, the exhibition is curated by Dr. Andreas Marks, the director and chief curator of the Clark Center for Japanese Art and Culture, Hanford, California. With 63 works by 30 master craftsmen from the 13th to 20th centuries, Lethal Beauty features full suits of armor, helmets, warrior hats, face masks, long and short swords, daggers, rifles and more.

Tales of the samurai have enchanted people for generations, and continue to delight and captivate audiences today. The exhibition also showcases a pair of folding screens by a Kano school artist and a seven-piece set of sword fittings, both from the 1600s depicting battle scenes from the famous Tale of the Heike. The Tale of the Heike is one of the greatest warrior epics in Japanese literature and marks the dawn of samurai honor, valor and fortitude.

20th Annual National NGV Achievement Award Winners Announced

(Washington DC; Acworth, GA) NGVAmerica and the Clean Vehicle Education Foundation (CVEF), two organizations dedicated to increasing the use of natural gas-powered vehicles to improve air quality, lessen dependence on foreign oil and reduce fleet operator costs, have announced ten 2012 winners of the prestigious  NGV Achievement Award in addition to one  NGV Lifetime Achievement Award. The awards are given to persons and organizations in recognition of their outstanding contributions in leadership, vision and innovation to the advancement of natural gas as a vehicular fuel.

The 2012 NGV Achievement Award winners are:

Chuck Feinberg / NJ Clean Cities Coalition “Outstanding NGV Advocate-Ally”- For effectively leveraging a $15 million dollar federal grant with an additional $32 million dollar non-federal capital investment to establish a program to accelerate the transition of private and municipal fleets to CNG in the State of New Jersey.  With this funding, the Clean Cities Coalition and its partnerships added over 300 natural gas vehicles - in addition to the construction of six new CNG stations across the state.  Consequently, these efforts will directly displace 2 million gallons of petroleum fuel and remove more than 900,000 pounds of criteria pollutants per year.

DeKalb County, GA – Dept of Sanitation “Innovative Landfill Gas-to-CNG Project” - For a $15 million project that includes the construction of the DeKalb County Renewable Energy Facility, a plant designed to convert landfill gas to produce 2.3 million diesel gallon equivalents of CNG annually. A public-access CNG fueling station has also been built on site to dispense fuel to 40 of their vehicles, allowing this fleet to be powered by the trash they haul. An additional 39 natural gas vehicles will be added to their fleet in 2013.  The county’s goal is to replace or adapt its entire fleet of 306 vehicles to natural gas fuel which – when implemented - will displace 1,250,000 gallons of diesel annually.  Under current market conditions, turning ‘Trash to Gas’ and ‘Gas to Cash’, DeKalb County vehicles are forecasted to save $3 million dollars over the next eight years.

Saddle Creek Logistics Services “Outstanding NGV 3PL Industry Leadership” – For incorporating over 100 Freightliner M2-112’s by year end to support their client’s sustainability programs.  Saddle Creek’s existing eco-friendly fleet of 40 NGV trucks hit the two million mile mark in August.  The first of Saddle Creek’s planned network of natural gas fueling stations opened in March at a cost of $2.2 million dollars. With the addition of 62 more trucks by this December, Saddle Creek will be displacing 1,530,000 gallons of diesel fuel and reducing its carbon footprint by 11,400,000 pounds annually. It should be noted that all these accomplishments have been done without any government subsidies.

Golden Eagle Distributors, Inc. “Outstanding CNG Fleet & Station Program” - For a 100% heavy-duty CNG fleet conversion at their Tucson (22 M2-112’s) and Casa Grande (5 M2-112’s) facilities in addition to a newly-constructed public access compressed natural gas fueling station, making it Tucson’s 3rd CNG fueling station. Golden Eagle’s strategic plan is to convert all its heavy-duty diesel vehicles to CNG. Next month, construction to build a second public-access cng station in Casa Grande will fuel not only their fleet but serve to provide others in the community with the opportunity to consider utilizing ngv’s.

City of Nashua, NH “Exemplary CNG Fleet & Station Program” – For their rapid deployment of a very aggressive ngv program; in the span of just 18 short months, from learning about the benefits of CNG to the station ribbon cutting ceremony.  While this process will be a multi-year transformation, the City will have nearly 40 CNG vehicles deployed by December 31st, this year.  Nashua’s CNG station is fully public-access and currently consuming just over 3,000 GGE’s per month. Nashua is the first municipality in New England to take a comprehensive approach to fleet replacement utilizing CNG in many city departments affecting light-, medium-, and heavy-duty vehicles simultaneously. The City of Nashua should be commended for creating the first public-private partnership CNG station in the state.

PA State Rep Stan Saylor “NGV Public Policy Champion” - For showing great leadership by generating tremendous NGV momentum in the Pennsylvania General Assembly.  Representative Saylor has educated House members about the benefits of natural gas as well as the huge opportunity the Marcellus shale resource plays to move the Commonwealth toward energy independence. To this end, in April, Representative Stan Saylor unveiled a package of legislation called “Marcellus Works,” designed to secure Pennsylvania’s energy future and create thousands of new jobs by creating incentives for the use of clean natural gas. Act 13 – supported by Rep. Saylor - was signed into law by Governor Corbett early this year which will provide $20 million in grants through 2015 for initiatives that include the conversion of vehicles to natural gas.

Frito-Lay North America, Inc. “Exemplary CNG Fleet & Station Program” – For advocating natural gas as a win-win situation, both in terms of accomplishing their sustainability strategy and reducing costs.  As the 7th largest private delivery fleet in the United States, Frito-Lay – a division of PepsiCo - has made outstanding contributions toward the advancement of natural gas as a vehicular fuel. Frito-Lay has turned to natural gas for its heavy-duty fleets starting a pilot program of 18 Freightliner M2-112 tractors in 2011. Testing was successful and as a result, they have added 54 thus far this year with plans to have a total of 160 natural gas trucks in 2013. At an average consumption of 13,000 gallons of fuel per truck, Frito-Lay’s current fleet of 72 NGVs yields the total displacement of nearly 936,000 gallons of diesel annually. Saving $2.50 a diesel gallon equivalent translates to over $2.3 million dollars in fuel savings with this fleet.

Green Energy Oilfield Services, LLC “Exemplary Shale Play LNG Truck Deployment Program” – For being one of the first companies in the industry to provide fluid management services, including fluid transportation, storage, and disposal through the utilization of LNG- powered trucks. Early this year, Green Energy purchased its first 60 Peterbilt Model 388 LNG tractors powered by Westport HD 15L technology; 50 of these tractors are used as vacuum trucks which remove and dispose of formation water and 10 are used as winch trucks, transporting frac tanks for onsite storage of fluids. Green Energy has contracted to build a LNG fueling station at their headquarters to use fuel that will support their oil production customers within a 100-mile radius of Fairfield, in the Freestone oil region of Central Texas. Their 60-unit fleet is anticipated to use approximately 1.2 million gallons of LNG annually. Green Energy Oilfield Services is committed to acquiring and deploying fleets comprised exclusively of LNG-powered trucks and anticipate acquiring an additional 140 heavy duty natural gas trucks by the end of 2013.

Paper Transport, Inc. “Outstanding NGV 3PL Industry Leadership” – For their 20 CNG trucks on the road and 15 on order scheduled for delivery next month.  To date, Paper Transport has logged over 2.4 million miles with NG powered trucks.  PTI has formed a joint venture to build public-access CNG fueling stations throughout the regions in which they operate.  The first station opened in Green Bay this January and 2 have been added since with 2 more planned for early 2013.  In promoting our industry, PTI advocates natural gas as a transportation fuel to their competitors, sharing technical expertise with other carriers looking to explore CNG as an alternative fuel source.  Additionally, Paper Transport has lent itself to serve as guinea pigs by testing prototype compressed natural gas product, putting into service a Kenworth and a Freightliner tractor powered by the CWI ISX-12G CNG engine. They have also been instrumental in working with and testing APG dual-fuel technology.  PTI has been and continues to be a leader and pioneer in the natural gas truck market.

Kwik Trip, Inc. “Outstanding NGV Market Development Leadership” - For building the nation’s first truly alternative fuels station in La Crosse, WI – a personal investment of $3 million dollars.  The design of the station itself is a marvel due to the fact that it incorporates 10 transportation fuels, including CNG and LNG, under a single canopy to achieve a one-stop fueling experience for the general public. Kwik Trip currently has three locations offering CNG – which sells for between $1.59 and $1.79 per GGE in Wisconsin, and plans to open five more stations this year. An additional 10 stations are slated to open in 2013.  Kwik Trip's own NGV fleet will serve as part of the anchor load. Kwik Trip maintains a fleet of about 400 vehicles which travel over 18 million miles annually. They have just begun to transform their fleet and currently operate over 20 NGVs ranging from light duty vehicles to Class 8 trucks.  Kwik Trip is an activist for the ngv industry and strongly advocates the nationwide adoption of natural gas to be a standard fuel instead of an alternative fuel.

William J. “Bill” Calvert  “NGV Lifetime Achievement Award” -  In his 30+ year NGV career, Calvert has left his mark, engaging others to enter the market early on and to become NGV industry leaders in their own right, co-founding and then successfully building BAF Technologies - one of the NGV industry’s leading SVMs, near-single-handedly developing the cutaway shuttle bus niche sector, and mentoring countless individuals - both inside and outside his own company - along the way.  Calvert was a founding member of the Kentucky Clean Fuels Partnership - home of one of the very first Clean Cities Coalitions, and was also an early participant and member of AGA’s NGV Technology Committee, which later spun off to become the NGV Coalition and now NGVAmerica. Calvert’s focus on building trust in his relationships has earned him the respect of his BAF associates, his competitors, his customers, his suppliers, policymakers, advocate-allies and industry icons. There aren’t many people in this industry that Bill has not somehow touched either directly or indirectly. His influence - his legacy – may be measured in so many ways --- but the most important is the measure of the trust and friendships that he has developed over the years.

The awards were presented Friday, October 5th at NGVAmerica’s 2012 NGV Conference and Summit at the Renaissance Convention Center Hotel in Schaumburg, Illinois.

Franklin Pierce University Proves It Is No Lightweight in Sprint Football!

Rindge, New Hampshire – Franklin Pierce University became the eighth team to play in the varsity Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) this season, joining Army, Cornell, Mansfield, Navy, Penn, Post, and Princeton. Dubbed an expansion team this year under the same one-year probationary period through which Mansfield University and Post University joined in recent years, the Franklin Pierce Ravens are proving to be a formidable addition to the sport with their recent win against Princeton.

Sprint football (formerly known as “lightweight football”) is played like traditional heavyweight football, but there are a few key differences. Sprint football is played faster, with an emphasis on speed and agility rather than body weight and strength. Players have a weight limit of 172 pounds and must maintain five percent or more body fat in order to discourage players from losing excessive weight in order to play. The recruitment process for sprint football varies greatly from typical heavyweight football programs in that coaches are not allowed to go off campus to recruit players, and practices differ in that only 15 days of official practice are allowed in the fall, with no practice allowed in the spring. Finally, the league championship title is given to the team with the best record during the regular season, which heightens the sense of competition for each game.

Five teams have been playing in the CSFL since 1957, and two others have joined since 2008 in addition to Franklin Pierce (Mansfield and Post). While sprint football does not often share much of the limelight with heavyweight football, many notable players have come from the sport, including Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots, (Columbia University); President Jimmy Carter, (Navy); and Donald Rumsfeld, the former Secretary of Defense, (Princeton).

Head coach Peter Ewald has guided the Ravens well in their opening games. The Franklin Pierce University Ravens nearly beat long-established Cornell University in their inaugural sprint football game on Sept. 22 before ultimately falling to Cornell 26-21. The Ravens second game was played on Sept. 30 against Penn, another close game in which Franklin Pierce fell behind in the last seconds of play to lose to Penn 24-20. On Oct. 12, Franklin Pierce won their first game in program history at Princeton Stadium, defeating the played Princeton Tigers with a final score of Franklin Pierce 21-14.

The Ravens have one more away game on Oct. 27 at Mansfield, and a final home game on Nov. 3 against Post. Because Franklin Pierce is in a probationary expansion period, they do not play all of the CSFL teams this year. Franklin Pierce home games are played at Oakmont Regional High School in Ashburnham, Mass.
