We here at Rocky Coast News recently had the chance to interview Zoe Ann, an amazing Singer/Songwriter from Dallas, Texas. Below is our interview with Zoe Ann.

When did you start singing?
I started singing before I started talking. I was always trying to sing and dance along to music, even though I hadn't figured out the words yet.

Was it your dream to be a singer?
Yes, My first verbal declaration of that was when I was three years old. I was at the Arbor Festival with my mom. I saw a girl singing on a stage and nudged my mom, saying "I want to do that when I grow up". My mom was pretty shocked considering at that time, I was the shyest little girl around.

Tell us about your style of singing?
My influences have a very wide range. So I get my inspiration from rock bands like Led Zeppelin, all the way to electronic bands like Metric. So my style is described as edgy rock with pop/current elements.
Are there challenges pursuing a singing career?
Yes, just as in every career you have to climb your "mountain". Mine just happens to be a very large one, but I'm getting there.

Do your parents and friends support you?
Very much so! I'm blessed with parents that believe in me and are extremely encouraging. My friends have so much fun coming to shows and being a part of seeing things grow. As far as the people I went to school with, I was bullied in Middle School, so it's funny how they all of a sudden want to be my friend.

Do you write your own songs?
Yes. I believe as an artist, that is the most important / rewarding thing!

If so, tell us what goes into writing a great song?
My biggest writing tool is my piano, but it 's different every time. I could be  in the grocery store and a song idea would come to my head. So I pull out my iPhone voice memos and record my idea to work on later.

Where was your first performance, were you excited?
My first performance was a piano recital when I was 5. I was so nervous.

Where have you been able to perform?
Since I live in Dallas, I have performed at many local venues, like House of Blues, Palladium Ball Room, Six Flags Over Texas Music Mill Amphitheater, Trees, Dallas Stars Game, Dallas Guitar Show, and others. I played during SXSW on a few stages in Austin, TX which I plan on doing again this year. Out of state venues that you might know are Mall of America in MN, The Roxy Theater in Hollywood, CA, and The Rutledge in Nashville, TN.
Who inspires you with your singing and songwriting?
I get inspired by so many things. My biggest inspirations are Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, and my own life for example, boys, mean girls, movies, anything can inspire a song.

If you could perform anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
My biggest dream is to be in front of a huge audience. A sea of people, all having an awesome time, and knowing the words to my song. If that were the case, I don't care where it is. Haha!

Along the same line, who would you love to perform with?
I would want to open for a legend. That's a huge dream of mine. I wish I could play 'Imagine' with John Lennon...but he's not here at the moment.

What are some of your goals for your Music?
The sky's the limit! I hope to be touring as soon as possible, meeting new people through my music!

What do you hope to accomplish with your singing/songwriting?
I hope to make a difference in people's lives. I've been through some really tough things and I definitely believe that I can help others through my music.
Do you have any advice for those wanting to start a career in singing and songwriting?
All or nothing, if you really want to do something in life you have to give it your all. Then failure isn't an option.

Is there anything else you want our readers to know about you, your singing/songwriting?
I'm real. I write from my heart. I care about the problems people are facing and I know my songs can be a light through some of those situations.

Do you have any other talents?
I can dance, play piano and guitar. I can skateboard, ride horses and I can touch my tongue to my nose. It's pretty cool.
