Down to their final strike, Hissey ties it with a homer and Palacios wins it with a single
Manchester, NH - Trailing 4-2 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays Double-A affiliate) rallied for three runs to stun the Reading Fightin Phils (Philadelphia Phillies) in a 5-4 walk-off win on Wednesday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
Down to their final strike, the Fisher Cats tied the game on a two-run homer from Ryan Hissey, who launched a 1-2 pitch over the right-field fence to make it 4-4. Vinny Capra then drew a walk, stole second base, and scored the game-winning run on a line drive single to right field from Josh Palacios.
Bryan Baker (W, 1) struck out the side in the top of the ninth to keep New Hampshire within two runs. Ty Tice held Reading scoreless in 1.1 innings of relief.
Patrick Murphy got the start for the Fisher Cats, and was brilliant over 6.2 innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits with one walk and eight strikeouts. Mickey Moniak hit a game-tying two-run homer in the sixth inning to make it 2-2, and Reading took a 4-2 edge with a pair of unearned runs in the seventh.
Alberto Mineo (2-for-4) and Santiago Espinal (2-for-3) produced RBI singles to give Murphy an early 2-0 cushion.
The Fisher Cats (3-3) will hit the road for a seven-game swing, starting at Dunkin' Donuts Park against the Hartford Yard Goats (1-6) on Thursday night (tonight).
