Spring Water System Flushing
The City of Keene Public Works Department will begin its annual spring water main flushing program on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at 10:00 PM. The work will be done at night between the hours of 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM to minimize any inconvenience to our customers in the form of discolored water or traffic delays. This work is expected to continue for approximately 4 weeks and end by Friday, May 24, 2019.
A list of specific streets to be flushed will be issued next week.
Routine flushing is required to maintain water quality throughout the distribution system. Flushing is the process by which water is moved through a water main at a high velocity so that a scouring action is created. The water and the associated build up in the pipe is then discharged through a fire hydrant. While the hydrants are open in your neighborhood, you may experience discolored water or a drop in water pressure. In the unlikely event your water service is interrupted or you are experiencing no water pressure please notify the Public Works Department (night phone # 352-2222) as soon as possible.
If you experience any discolored water, close all taps in your home except one, run your cold water for 10 minutes and water should run clear. If water does not clear up, close the tap, wait 30 minutes and repeat process again. If you experience any laundry staining, please do not dry the laundry and contact Public Works at 352-6550. We will give you a product designed to remove the stains.
If you have any questions regarding this post please call our office at 352-6550.
