Keene, NH: Spring Water System Flushing - First Week

The City of Keene Public Works Department will begin its annual spring water main flushing program on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at 10:00 PM.  The first week of flushing will end at 6:00 AM on Friday, May 3, 2019.Work will be performed at night between the hours of 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM to minimize any inconvenience to our customers in the form of discolored water and/or traffic delays.
 
This maintenance program is designed to clean mineral deposits from the water mains and allows us to exercise city water valves and hydrants to keep them operational for firefighting, water main breaks and other emergencies.

The streets to be affected during the first week are listed below; this may vary depending on weather or mechanical issues:

If you experience any discolored water, close all taps in your home except one, run your cold water (with the aerator removed from the end of the faucet) for 10 minutes and water should run clear. If water does not clear up, close the tap, wait 30 minutes and repeat process again. If you experience any laundry staining, please do not dry the laundry and contact our office, we will give you a product designed to remove the stains.
