What’s Next at the North Conway Library?

North Conway, New Hampshire - Have you seen workers pruning and removing shrubs and bushes at the Library? Can you see more of the building and its magnificent architecture? Did you know that the building is made of granite blocks from Whitaker Woods?

With the help of Master Gardener Ralph Lutjen, the Library has developed a landscaping plan to enhance its beautiful downtown property. The first step is to remove overgrown shrubs and bushes, trim trees and prepare the property for spring planting.

Overgrown trees will be replaced with smaller, low-growing shrubs. Shrubs have been chosen which will add color and balance to the building.  A granite bench will be placed in the north corner, on the Main Street side, among flowering perennial plants.  There will be a patio area behind the Library where patrons and visitors can sit, read, use WiFi and eat their lunch.  Old growth will be removed near the parking lot where rhododendrons and azaleas will be planted for screening and beauty.

Keep your eyes open for this spring happening. Opportunities are available to help this endeavor by donating to purchase individual shrubs and benches. What a great way to remember a loved one or and to help the Library become a focal point of beauty on Main Street.

A colorful rendering of the project will be unveiled at our 125th Anniversary Celebration on Sunday, November 4th. Please join us from 2–4 p.m. to learn more about the Library, its past, present and future, and to celebrate its growth over the past 125 years.

For more information or to see a rendering of the proposed changes, please visit the Library or call 356-2961.
