BURLINGTON, VT — Australian burlesque troupe Hot Brown Honey brings its fiery, stereotype-smashing political cabaret to the Flynn Center MainStage Friday, April 26 at 8 pm.
Hot Brown Honey turns up the heat, delivering lashings of sass and a hot pinch of empowerment in the smash-hit that has taken the world by storm. Packing a punch of hip hop politics, the Honeys make audiences laugh, cry, clap, and buzz. This stellar posse of phenomenal women make noise as they defiantly smash stereotypes and remix the system. Fighting the power never tasted so sweet.
Produced by the internationally renowned Briefs Factory, Hot Brown Honey features a bevy of powerful and talented First Nations women from Aboriginal Australian, Samoan, Tongan, Māori, Indonesian and South African backgrounds who are dead set on calling out the patriarchy, shattering preconceptions of colour and having a riotous time doing it. This neo-burlesque collective perform a full throttle show accompanied by a pounding soundtrack spun by Queen Bee Busty Beatz, from atop her glowing hive.
Director Lisa Fa’alafi says: "It’s plain knowledge that there are limited platforms in the arts for people of colour, let alone women of colour. So we made our own platform, to tell our stories, to create a space where we stand centre stage. We really do believe ‘You cannot be what you cannot see’, so we are just doing it; we are putting more brown faces on stage and in the process shining a light on all the talented Hot Brown Honeys around Australia doing amazing work. Because let’s be honest, there are plenty of women out there they just need to see the pathways where they too can shine.”

Walter Trout Rocks the Blues at The Monkey
Plymouth, NH: Walter Trout will perform songs from his newest album “Survivor Blues” at The
Flying Monkey in Plymouth on Thursday, April 13th at 7:30pm. Tickets for this concert start at $29.
Walter Trout is the beating heart of the modern blues
rock scene, respected by the old guard, revered by the young guns, and adored
by the fans who shake his hand after the show each night. After five decades in
the game, Trout is a talismanic figure and part of the glue that bonds the
blues community together, at a time when the wider world has never been so
divided.
Born on March 6, 1951 in Ocean
City, N.J., Trout started his career in the Garden State in the late 1960s. In
a cool video about the making of Survivor Blues, which is published on his
website, Trout recalls how as a 16- or 17-year-old he met B.B. King. After
spotting King in a New Jersey record store, he asked him for an autograph,
saying he loved the blues and was trying to figure it out on the guitar. King
ended up talking to him for more than one hour. One thing’s for sure: That
conversation did not discourage young Walter Trout to pursue the blues!
Initially a sideman for the
likes of John Lee Hooker, Joe Tax and John Mayall during the ’70s and 80s, and
starting from 1989, as a solo artist. This year, Trout has released a covers
album aptly titled Survivor Blues, featuring tunes he feels have been
underappreciated. Since there are only so many ways you can play the blues,
it’s all about execution. If you dig electric blues, you’re in for treat!
“I didn’t want to do ‘Stormy
Monday’ or ‘Messin’ With The Kid.’ I didn’t want to do the Blues greatest
hits,” Trout commented on the new album. I wanted to do old, obscure songs that
have hardly been covered…My idea was to do these songs like me, to arrange them
for my band and style – not to just copy the originals note-for-note.”

Gary Gulman & The Great Depress Comedy Tour
Plymouth, NH: Last Comic
Standing finalist and Boston native Gary Gulman will perform at The Flying Monkey in Plymouth on Friday, April 5th at
7:30pm as part of “The Great Depress Tour”. Tickets for
this concert start at $25.
Gary Gulman is proving to the
comic world that you don’t have to come in first to be a star performer.
Originally from Boston, Gary
Gulman has been a scholarship college football player, an accountant, and a
high school teacher. Now he is one of
the most popular touring comics and one of only a handful of comedians to
perform on every single late-night talk show.
For those who have followed his
work, Gulman was a finalist on the NBC comic show “Last Comic Standing” in both
seasons two and three. Though he didn’t take home the big prize, Gulman has
carved out a nice career that has seen his star power rise.
Gulman has made numerous
appearances on late-night TV, and has even gotten his own Comedy Central
special, “Gary Gulman: Boyish Man.” He was so funny on his initial one-hour
special, that Comedy Central greenlit a second one, “In This Economy?” in 2012.
In addition to his comedy appearances and specials, Gulman has also appeared in
numerous shows, including “Inside Amy Schumer.”
So, as one could say, Gulman is
definitely living out his dream, a dream he has had ever since he launched his
career, and to see it come to fruition is proof-positive that you don’t have to
come in first to be first.
Tickets
for Gary Gulman range from $25 - $35. For more information on upcoming shows or
to purchase tickets call the box office at 603-536-2551 or go online at

“My goal was to not only to pay
tribute to Luther but to add my own passion on top of Luther’s brilliant songs.
It all started with my mom who has always loved Luther and played his music in
our home continuously – especially during Christmas,” Studdard explains. He
goes on to say, “But people always asked when I was going to do an album of
Luther’s songs. Happily the day has arrived. It was a thrilling experience
selecting the songs from his different albums and putting my own interpretation
on them. I am so proud of this record.”
Ruben Studdard is the winner of
American Idol’s second season and since then has been a Grammy nominated
R&B, gospel and pop singer. He has recorded six studio albums, appears
frequently on TV, toured extensively and has sold over two million albums
worldwide.
“As for the tour, we are not
only recreating some of the production elements, musicians, background singers,
wardrobe and lighting that were ever present when Luther took the stage, but my
heart and soul will be in every note I sing as I honor one of the greatest
vocalists we’ve ever had.”
