Ballet Hispánico Celebrates Women and Latin Dance at the Flynn

BURLINGTON, VT—  America’s premier Latino dance organization for more than 45 years, Ballet Hispánico performs on the Flynn MainStage on Saturday, April 20 at 8 pm.

Ballet Hispánico brings its bold and eclectic brand of contemporary dance with an all-female program. The engagement features Michelle Manzanales’s Con Brazos Abiertos, an exploration of iconic Mexican symbols that Manzanales was reluctant to embrace as a Mexican-American child growing up in Texas; Línea Recta, by Belgo-Colombian Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, a work pairing the hallmark passion of flamenco dance with highly inventive and intricate partnering, set to music by flamenco guitarist Eric Vaarzon Morel; and Catorce Dieciséis, by Tania Pérez-Salas, one of Mexico’s most noted contemporary choreographers.

Ballet Hispánico celebrates and explores Latino cultures and the shared human experience through dance. Founded by National Medal of Arts recipient Tina Ramirez, Ballet Hispánico has been led since 2009 by Artistic Director & CEO Eduardo Vilaro, who has infused the organization’s legacy with a bold and eclectic brand of contemporary dance that reflects America’s changing cultural landscape. Through performances of its internationally-acclaimed company, innovative dance training programs, and community education activities that inspire individuals of all ages and backgrounds, Ballet Hispánico brings the joy of dance and Hispanic culture to the world.

Residency activities are a vibrant part of the Ballet Hispánico Company’s International and National Tour offerings. Developed through Ballet Hispánico’s Community Arts Partnerships division and conducted by Company members, these activities engage students, teachers, and community members of all ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds in a personal experience of Latin dance.
