Baseball Sails Past Anna Maria, 13-6

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England College baseball team show off their offensive powers, as the Pilgrims defeat Anna Maria 13-6, in non-conference action, Wednesday afternoon.

THE BASICS

Records: Pilgrims (9-2, 0-0 NECC) | AMCats (7-4, 0-0 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
New England College struck early, as the Pilgrims put up three of runs in the top of the seconds. Anderson Jimenez drove in a pair after doubling down the right field line, before Christian Aybar singled home Connor Morin. Anna Maria tied the game in the bottom half of the inning, as they plated three unearned runs.

NEC went back on top in the third, as Evan Delaney launched a two-run home run to left center field. Xavier Nunez tacked on another run in the fourth, as he singled up the middle, scoring Luis Atiles. The AMCats cut the deficit to one (6-5) in the bottom of the sixth, as they scored two more unearned runs.

The Pilgrims slowly extended their lead in the seventh and eighth inning, as Shane McNamara, Manuel Andujar, and Delaney picked up RBI's. Phillip Antoucci IV hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth, but NEC piled on four runs in the ninth to pull away.

Jameson Carey picked up the win for New England College, as the junior went 7.0 innings and allowing just one earned run.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
 -This was the 31st meeting all-time. Anna Maria still leads in the series 16-15.
-The Pilgrims' offense plated 13 runs today, increasing their season average to 10.8. That mark ranks them 14th nationally
-Delaney's home run in the third inning is his 15th at New England College.
