Men's Lacrosse Drops 13-5 Decision to Coast Guard

SPARKS, MD.—The New England College men's lacrosse team dropped a 13-5 decision to the United States Coast Guard Academy in non-conference action, Saturday afternoon at William G. Tierney Field.

Following the game, the Pilgrims fell to 1-3 on the season, while the Bears improve to 3-2 on the year.

NEC LEADERS
Connor Smith was the lone Pilgrim with a multi-goal game, with two on the afternoon. Five different NEC players registered an assist, while Connor Fries led the way with five ground balls. Andrew Noorigian tied Fries with four caused turnovers on the defensive end.

USCGA LEADERS
Benner Geurtsen had five goals on the day, while Will Iorio paced the Bears offense with six assists. Trey Johnson, Colin Cashin, and Mike McCaslin all had four ground balls, while McCaslin led the team with three caused turnovers.

HOW IT HAPPENED  
Coast Guard got the scoring started just over a minute into the game, as Jack Pope scored a man-up goal. The Bears would go on to tally five more goals in the first, before Connor Smith ended the scoring drought for New England College with three minutes remaining in the first.

USCGA continued to find the back of the net, by scoring six-straight goals in the second and third quarters to go up 12-1, before Reed Foster scored with under a minute left in the third. A man-up goal from Austin Frankel to begin the fourth quarter would mark the first time that NEC potted back-to-back goals. After another tally from Coast Guard, the Pilgrims would get goals from Smith and Charles Hacking to get the final score (13-5).

GOALTENDERS 
Senior William Platt tallied 16 stops for New England College, while USCGA split the time with Johnson, Josh Ordonez, and Charles McAllister, where the trio combined for eight saves.
