D'Alleva's Day Delivers Dartmouth 15-11 Win vs. Brown in Ivy Opener
Kellen D'Alleva picks up eight points on six asissts as Big Green best the Bears.
HANOVER, N.H. – The Dartmouth women's lacrosse team finally played at home after four straight road games to open the 2019 season.
Saturday's season debut at Scully-Fahey Field also served as the
conference opener as the Big Green (2-3, 1-0) bested visiting Brown
(2-2, 0-1) by a score of 15-11.
The Bears had come into the game as one of the top-scoring teams in the
nation, but were held to a season-low 11 goals in the game. A year after
a loss in Providence cost Dartmouth a shot at a share of the Ivy League
title, the Big Green bounced back to defeat Brown in the first Ancient
Eight game 2019, garnering some level of revenge for that heartbreaker
in the regular-season finale.
Coming into the day with just 32 career points, senior Kellen D'Alleva had a monster afternoon with six assists and eight points, both career highs, while scoring a pair of goals.
After Brown took an early 2-0 lead, the home team ripped off the next
three goals. The two would exchange scores for much of the first half
before the Green and White netted the final three to take an 8-5 lead
into intermission. Dartmouth would never look back, outscoring their Ivy
counterparts, 7-6, in the final frame to earn the four-goal victory.
In addition to D'Alleva's strong showing, the home team got a five-goal outing from Kierra Sweeney, pushing her season total to a team-leading 17 through five games. Campbell Brewer also found the back of the net three times and dished out an assist for four points.
For Brown, the offense ran through Maggie Fowler, who nearly matched
D'Alleva with five assists of her own. Emma DeGennarno scored four
times, while the Ivy League's top scorer and Campton, New Hampshire,
native Rosa Mosenthal was held to three.
Goalkeeper Kiera Vrindten stopped nine as she picked up her second win of the season. Erin Tucker took the loss for the Bears despite making 13 saves.
Dartmouth is back home Wednesday (March 6) against UConn. Game time from Scully-Fahey Field is set for 3 p.m.
