Softball Splits Doubleheader Against the College of Saint Elizabeth

CLERMONT, FL. – The New England College softball team splits their twin bill with the College of Saint Elizabeth 4-0, 4-7, Tuesday afternoon at Osceola Softball Complex at the PFX Experience.

The Basics
Score:  New England College 4, College of Saint Elizabeth 0 (Game One)
College of Saint Elizabeth 7, New England College 4 (Game Two)

Records: Pilgrims (2-4, 0-0 NECC) | Eagles (3-3, 0-0 NEAC)

How it Happened
Game One – New England College 4, College of Saint Elizabeth 0
The Pilgrims jumped out in front as they crossed the plate three times in the bottom of the first. Destiney Helmdach scored on a wild pitch before Emily Nelson drove in Izzabelle Phelps and Daelyn Ross with a single to center field.

New England College tacked on another in the bottom of the second, as Rachel Senechal scored on a Chanel Welch bunt.

In the circle, Taylor Barbour went the distance for the second time this season, as she struck out six including retiring 14 of the last 15 batters she faced.

Game Two – College of Saint Elizabeth 7, New England College 4
Once again New England College plated runs in the first inning. Ross tripled to left field, scoring both Welch and Jasmin Alverado, before Phelps doubled home Ross. Yesenia Dominguez capped off the four-run first inning with a single to center field, scoring Taylor Dill.

The Eagles responded in the bottom of the first inning, as they scored three runs in the frame.  The College of Saint Elizabeth eventually took the lead in the bottom of the fourth, as they scored four runs in the inning with two-RBI singles from Jennifer Tinger and Neckolette Nedwell.


Inside the Numbers
  • This was the first two meetings between the two schools.
  • Both wins this season are shutouts pitched by Taylor Barbour, and her seventh career complete game shutout.
