Colby-Sawyer improves to 9-6 and will have a quick turnaround with a 4 p.m. contest at Southern Vermont tomorrow. Rivier drops to 6-8 and will resume Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. home game against Emmanuel.
The Chargers opened the game scoring seven of the first eight goals, including four from senior Caitlyn Whearty (Hampstead, N.H.). Rivier cut into the lead thanks to three straight goals from senior Paxton LaRocque (Londonderry, N.H.) in a span of 1:27. Colby-Sawyer would regain composure and score the final three goals of the half to head into the break in front 10-4.
Colby-Sawyer's defense clamped down in the second half and allowed one goal on three shots. The offense continued to apply pressure and added six goals to claim the 16-5 victory.
Whearty led all players with five goals. She moved into eighth on Colby-Sawyer's all-time list with 120 career goals and into ninth with 148 career points. Sophomore Nicole Lavigne (Berlin, Vt.) added four goals and five ground balls. Senior Sara Berry (Bowdoinham, Maine) filled the stat sheet once again with three goals, six ground balls and six caused turnovers. Sophomore Bailey Starr (Barre, Vt.) collected 12 draw controls.
Rivier was led by a four-goal effort from LaRocque. Freshman Ashley Manzo (Windham, N.H.) recorded the Raiders' other goal. Junior Amanda Wickens (Tyngsboro, Mass.) grabbed a game-high eight ground balls.
Colby-Sawyer goalie Meghan Castellano (Wallingford, Conn.) made three saves to earn her 20th career victory, which ties her for second on the all-time list. Rivier goalie Courtney Laperriere (Keene, N.H.) had nine saves in the loss.
