CASTLETON, Vt. – New England College softball dropped a pair of North
Atlantic Conference (NAC) games to Castleton State College Sunday
afternoon.
The Spartans came from behind to take game one, 4-3,
before winning the second contest 9-1 in five innings. The Spartans'
sweep moves them to 11-9 overall on the season and 6-2 in NAC play,
putting them atop the conference standings. NEC falls to 13-15 overall
and 4-2 in conference with the losses.
Game One
The
Pilgrims held the 3-1 lead heading into the sixth inning before the
Spartans would manufacture
base runners and take advantage of an NEC
error to plate three runs in the sixth holding on for the eventual 4-3
victory.
NEC's Joslyn Gallagher had a solo home run for the Pilgrims in the fourth and Rebecca Allen singled in a run in the first. On the mound for NEC was Gabriella Marcheschi who allowed two earned runs on 10 hits and struck out one.
Game Two
Castleton
would plate single tallies in both the first and the third innings
before exploding for five runs in the fourth eventually cruising to the
9-1 five-inning victory.
Colleen Holt was the only Pilgrim with a multi-hit game singling and doubling. Christine McNeil singled and scored a run, while Brianna Castellano singled in a run for the Pilgrims.
