New England College Softball Sweeps Maine-Farmington to Stay Undefeated in NAC

Henniker, N.H. - The New England College softball team remains undefeated in conference play, picking up two wins against conference opponent U-Maine Farmington.  The Pilgrims won game one 6-1 and game two 8-3.

With the wins NEC improves to 13-13 overall and 4-0 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play.  The losses drop the Beavers to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

GAME ONE

The Pilgrims came out strong scoring three runs in the bottom of the first on three consecutive singles
from Gabriella Marcheschi, Rebecca Allen, and Joslyn Gallagher.  Allen picked up another run batted in the fifth inning belting a lead-off home run to right center putting the Pilgrims up 5-0. NEC would tack on another run in the fifth inning giving them the 6-0 lead going into the seventh.

Marcheschi was solid on the mound pitching a complete game, giving up four hits, and striking out six.

The Beavers lone run came in the top of the seven when Kylie Cunningham would knock in Ashley Gleason.  Kiana Thompson led the way for the Beaver's going 2-for-2, including a double to right center.  Kailyn Hill picked up the loss for U-Maine Farmington, giving up six hits, and four runs, while striking out 5 in 3.1 innings of work.

GAME TWO

The Beaver's would strike first, scoring two in the top of the first.  The Pilgrims fought back, scoring one in the first and adding two more in the second, to regain the lead.  NEC's Christine McNeil had a two-run blast over the left field fence, scoring teammate Jamie Ray in the bottom of the second.  Freshmen Jamie Ray and Gabriella Marcheschi, who each tallied three hits.  Freshman Joslyn Gallagher gave the Pilgrims some insurance runs in the third, blasting a two-run home run over the right field fence.

Picking up the win for the Pilgrims was Debra Mazzeo who improves to 8-8 on the season.  She threw a complete game, giving up only four hits, while striking out six.

Leading the way for the Beavers was Kylie Cunningham who went 2-for-3, including a single in the first inning that scored two runs.  Maragret Fogarty had the other run batted in for Farmington, scoring Meryl Bond on a sacrifice fly to center field.

Emily Vitone was charged the loss dropping her to 0-6 on the season.  She gave up 10 hits in four innings of work.
