New England College Women's Lacrosse Falls to League-Leading Castleton University

Henniker, N.H. – New England College lacrosse fell to league-leading Castleton University 18-8 in women's lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon.

With the win the Spartans improve to 8-5 overall and 6-0 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play.  The loss drops the Pilgrims to 9-7 overall and 5-2 in the NAC.

PILGRIM LEADERS
NEC was led by Gabriella Bigos who finished with four goals and Tara Bainbridge who had two
goals and an assist.

Allison Granata scooped up a team-best six ground balls and caused four Spartan turnovers.

SPARTAN LEADERS

Leading the way for Castleton was Brianna MacKay who totaled seven goals and an assist.  Brandi Whittemore finished with five goals, while Maria Ploof scored two goals and dished out three assists.

Grace Johnson finished the game with a team-high five draw controls.

FINAL COMPARISON

The Spartans would jump out to the early 6-0 lead but the Pilgrims would respond with five straight goals, including two by Bigos and two by Bainbridge, cutting the lead to 6-5 with 14 minutes to play in the opening half.  Castleton would dig deep late notching three goals in the final eight minutes, including two free-position goals, to head into halftime up 9-5.

The Castleton offense would control much of the second half of play as the Spartans would out score NEC 9-3 in the second half.

Castleton finished the game out shooting NEC 37-28 and held the slight 24-21 advantage in ground balls.

GOALTENDING

Picking up the win in net for Castleton was Meghan Els who recorded an impressive 15 saves.

NEC's Mackenzie Meegan turned away 15 Spartan shots.

WHAT'S NEXT

NEC will close out their regular season Saturday, April 23 when they travel to take on Maine Maritime Academy.

Castleton will hit the field as well on Saturday, April 23 when they host conference opponent Johnson State College.?
